Saints QB Organizes Private Workout With Receivers Ahead of Training Camp

The start of the NFL season is starting to ramp up, and so is the quarterback competition.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Spencer Rattler arranged a private workout with the Saints' wide receivers in Arizona.

Rattler was absent from a workout organized by veteran wide receiver Brandin Cooks in early July due to hosting his camp in South Carolina. The team met in Oregon, with most quarterbacks and receivers in attendance.

As training camp approaches, the quarterback competition will begin to heat up. Both Rattler and rookie quarterback Tyler Shough are making an effort to get extra reps in before camp to gain an edge.

Rattler had an up-and-down rookie season, but showed enough to earn an opportunity to win the starting quarterback job in his second year. The former fifth-round pick didn't get much time with starting pass catchers Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, as both receivers dealt with injuries throughout the 2024 season.

Now with a full offseason under his belt with his receivers and a year with the organization, Rattler has the chance to take the edge in the quarterback battle and enter the season as QB1.

However, the team is under a brand-new regime, and a large portion of the coaching staff from Rattler's rookie season is no longer with the team. The new coaching staff selected Tyler Shough early in the second round of the NFL draft, a hefty commitment to the rookie signal caller.

Kellen Moore and the Saints coaching staff have named the competition open, allowing whoever performs best to win the job. Both young quarterbacks are eager to become QB1 and are working hard to do so. But with Shough being part of the ongoing NFL disputes, Rattler may get ahead during the start of training camp.
