This offseason has seen plenty of changes for the New Orleans Saints offense. They've got a lot of new coaches in the building, and they are simply doing things differently to begin their preparation for 2024. Practices have been smoother than recent years, and there's a newfound sense of confidence with the unit. New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak deserves plenty of credit so far.
Saints QB Derek Carr has been especially impressive to start OTAs.
So far, he has been consistent and accurate when throwing so far in practice this offseason. He's certainly fared better than his counterparts. He seems to be maneuvering Klint Kubiak's
According to reports, Spencer Rattler had a great first day against rookie/veteran tryout defenders, but he's been much less consistent once more talent has entered the building for practice.
Jake Haener has been the clear QB2 for the Saints so far in practice, and he is taking reps with the second-team offense. Rattler has been working with the third-team offense, and those guys have plenty to prove still.
Only time will tell, but as of now, I would predict Haener to open the season as Carr's backup. Rattler will probably settle into that third QB role as I'd expect them to keep him over veteran Nathan Peterman.
As for Carr, getting on the same page as his receivers has been at the top of his to-do list in the offense. The offensive line is still a work in progress, and starters are undecided.
The WR room is probably set, though, and there is a lot of young talent around the depth chart there. Not to mention, Taysom Hill is being deployed in even more unique ways under Kubiak.
Carr looks determined to make improvements and find more consistency in 2024. If he does, the Saints will probably return to the postseason after missing out over the past couple of years.
