Saints QB situation takes another unexpected turn as Kellen Moore tries to decide who is his best option to start in 2025
The New Orleans Saints have a massive question mark remaining, even after plenty of offseason changes and additions this year. The quarterback position remains a bit of an unknown. Rookie Tyler Shough was the 40th overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft by New Orleans. Spencer Rattler is still in the fold as well.

The two young QB options for the Saints have both been taking some first-team reps in practice so far. That seems to be the plan for OTAs and the foreseeable future, according to Kellen Moore.
He said they'll rotate reps between first and second-team units for the Saints. It feels like a two-horse race to win the job for New Orleans right now.
Jake Haener dealing with injury
Jake Haener is the other quarterback option for the Saints as the offseason pushes on. Unfortunately, he ll be out of action for a chunk of time as the Saints try to identify their starter for Kellen Moore's first campaign as an NFL head coach.
Haener recently suffered an oblique strain. He will miss a couple of weeks, according to reports. That will hinder his opportunities to prove himself as a viable starting option for Moore's offense.
Jake Haener was injured after Wednesday’s practice, while throwing extra passes. After getting hurt, Haener underwent an MRI that revealed a strain but no oblique tear, and surgery was not needed. But the Saints now might have seen the last of Haener in action until training camp. -- Adam Schefter
It was going to be an uphill climb, regardless, for the career backup so far in the pros. Haener has gotten some playing time in the past due to injury or struggles, but his play has never earned him a starting role.
No matter what - there is still plenty left to unfold when it comes to the QB position in New Orleans.
