Saints rookie QB Tyler Shough reveals an update on his own injury right after his first NFL game vs. Chargers

Tyler Shough has minor knee injury

According to the rookie QB, he's dealing with a bruised knee. Shough was sacked twice during the game, so it's possible that he suffered bruise during one of those plays. Luckily, it does not sound like the rookie is overly concerned about it.

“I just landed on it - It’s just a bruise.” -- Shough in the postgame

Shough had his knee wrapped after the game, but it sounds like it shouldn't be a long-term issue. Hopefully, it won't be anything that prevents him from practicing this week or getting reps in the Saints' next preseason matchup. With just two exhibition games remaining, the young quarterback needs every opportunity to show the staff that he should win the starting job.

Shough completed 15 of 22 pass attempts for 165 yards, a passing touchdown, and an interception in his first NFL game. The offensive line struggled in front of him at times during the loss as well. It was not an impressive outing for that unit, made up entirely of backup players by the time the rookie QB entered.

Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener remain as the other two potential options to win the job outside of Shough. We will see how it shakes out.
