The New Orleans Saints are proving to be themselves during an offseason once again. They brought back Chase Young and Juwan Johnson. They've made some depth signings in free agency and upgraded at safety with Justin Reid.
All of these moves have been while making restructures and pay cut agreements with players all offseason. Their latest choices seem to point to more additions on the way for the black and gold as well.
Saints salary cap update
New Orleans has made some more restructuring decisions in recent days. These choices have come mostly with depth players, like Cedrick Wilson Jr and the newly-acquired Davon Godchaux.
Saints WR Cedrick Wilson reworked his contract, cutting his 2025 base salary from $3.4 million to the minimum of $1.17 million. His new cap number is $1.67 million. He previously counted $3.4 million against the cap. It still voids in 2026.

New Orleans was already cap compliant, with a bit of room to work with. Restructuring these players were decisions made for a bigger purpose - or so it would seem for the Saints' front office.
Keep in mind that both Cameron Jordan and Tyrann Mathieu also took pay cuts to stay in New Orleans. Their new deals have plenty of incentives involved. Derek Carr was restructured earlier on the offseason, too, in a move to open up space.
Following all of these moves, the Saints are projected to have just over $30 million in cap space as of now, according to Nick Underhill.
That is a notable amount of room for a team that many expected to be dormant during free agency due to a tight salary cap situation.
Big move coming for New Orleans?
With these moves, that are unnecessary for this offseason, a potential big-time move for an impact player may be coming down the pike for the Saints.
A signing at wide receiver like Keenan Allen or Amari Cooper may make some sense. On the flip-side, adding free-agent cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. and another potential starting interior offensive lineman may be on the table, too.
Not to mention, this is a portion of the offseason where we see some out of left field trades happen.
Could a star player be on the move to New Orleans before the draft, or are they just prepping themselves to sign a large draft class and make some depth moves to finish off their offseason?
Plus, part of their open cap space could roll around for next year, too. They'll have plenty more moves to make in 2026 to create space along their roster when it comes to the cap - once again.
