The New Orleans Saints are in a tough spot with Derek Carr now. There's no question about that, considering he may never play another snap for them. He's dealing with a shoulder injury that may prevent him from playing in the 2025 season.
With that, their 2025 NFL Draft plans probably just took a shift. Who knows how long they've known about Carr's ailment, but regardless, a lot of questions are now unanswered for Kellen Moore's first offseason.
In the latest 2-round collab mock draft from A to Z Sports, the Saints grabbed an offensive weapon that fits what Kellen Moore loves to do on offense. He wants a multitude of weapons, of all different styles and sizes. In round two, the Saints grab a key defensive piece for Brandon Staley, too.
Saints' picks in latest mock draft
9) New Orleans Saints: Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State
Warren is high on the Saints' radar for Kellen Moore's offense. With the quarterbacks and McMillan off the board, this made the most sense to me. Warren is one of the most likely offensive prospects to land in New Orleans on draft night, realistically, too.
-- A to Z Sports
Warren seems to be high on the Saints' radar. They were on his short list for a private workout, and Kellen Moore talked about the importance of having flexibility when it comes to talent around an offense.
He pointed to a bit of a "positionless" approach when it comes to accumulating impact weapons on an offensive unit. Labels can hold back a staff or front office from simply drafting the best prospects in a given draft.
Warren fits the mold of a tight end that can be moved around, truly, anywhere.
He completed passes, caught passes, and ran the football as a Nittany Lion. Seeing him used in an assortment of ways may take New Orleans' offense to a new level in year one under Moore's tutelage.
"I think it's really on guys who impact the game. I think skill position guys - sometimes we get stuck with running back, fullback, receiver...maybe only a tight end... You just want impact players."
"If you have two premier tight ends, you're gonna play in twelve personnel... You don't want to pass up on good players just because they can't quite fit what you currently do..."
-- Kellen Moore
40) New Orleans Saints: Azareye'h Thomas, CB, Florida State
Thomas is a versatile CB in this class, who is widely expected to go sometime early in round two. If he is there at 40th overall, I'd love this value for the Saints defense.
According to PFF, Thomas allowed zero touchdowns in coverage for Florida State last season.
Overall, this start of a rookie class would be a successful one for Kellen Moore's first NFL draft as a HC.
