Saints' Taysom Hill Named Potential Cut Candidate
With NFL training camp starting, teams are looking to finalize rosters for the regular season. Performances in training camp, as well as the preseason, will determine a lot, and some players will be left on the outside looking in.
But due to the nature of the league, there are always some surprising cuts of veteran players. Every season we see this happen, and this year should be no different as things get going.
One name that could be cut is veteran Taysom Hill of the New Orleans Saints. Due to the Saints' financial issues, Hill could be a casualty for this roster.
Bleacher Report writer Brent Sobleski mentioned Hill as a cut option in a recent piece.
"For the Saints, the idea of keeping the soon-to-be 35-year-old veteran with his price tag doesn't see feasible regarding a team that's clearly starting a rebuild. New Orleans can cut Hill and save $10 million toward the 2025 salary cap, which can be rolled toward the following season since the Saints are once again in the red for initial projections," wrote Sobleski.
Hill is coming off a brutal torn ACL injury last season, and there is no guarantee when he will return to the field. The veteran could be cut to allow a younger player to get a chance to prove their worth.
While Hill has meant a lot to the Saints over the years, the NFL is a business at the end of the day. Hill hasn't performed as strongly in the past few seasons, and the two sides could benefit from parting ways.
The veteran rushed for 278 yards with six touchdowns before getting hurt last season. If he were to be cut, Hill could look to latch on with more of a contending team, and he could help them go after a title when he returns from injury.
