It’s been a little over 4½ months since Foster Moreau had to be carted off the field at Raymond James Stadium in the loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the season finale.
The New Orleans Saints tight end isn’t practicing yet but was in attendance at the team’s first organized team activity this week as he continues the rehab process.
“The knee is doing great, and I’d have to say we are ahead of schedule,” Moreau said after Thursday’s practice.
How far ahead of schedule remains to be seen.
Will he be ready for training camp? Will he be ready shortly before the start of the regular season?
“I’d be pretty happy with a timeline that gets me back in either one of those spots,” Moreau said.
Moreau, a New Orleans native who starred at Jesuit High School and then LSU, is coming off one of the best seasons of his six-year NFL career.
He finished the year with 32 catches for 413 yards and five touchdowns. The five touchdowns tied his career high from his rookie season, when he played with the then-Oakland Raiders. The receptions and yards in 2024 were the second-most he’s had in a season.
Moreau is hoping to improve on those numbers even more under first-year head coach Kellen Moore.
“You’ve seen it in Kellen’s past,” Moreau said. “He’s definitely featured tight ends in the past, and I think we’ve got a pretty good room of guys who can get some juice into the offense.”
But first things first: just getting back onto the field. Moreau is one of two tight ends recovering from knee injuries. Taysom Hill is the other.
“Those guys are going through their process, and obviously it’ll be a little bit longer,” Moore said.

Butch DillMoreau, of course, is anxious to return.
“I’m big on reps and big on practice and big on acclimating to actual football progression,” Moreau said. “Training camp is a big part of that. So as much of that as I can get would be much appreciated for me.”
