A date is set for Conor Timmins and the Buffalo Sabres to go to arbitration.
An NHL source confirmed to The Buffalo News that Timmins is set for an arbitration hearing Aug. 2. The source could not go on the record because the information was not publicly released by the Sabres nor Timmins.
The Sabres acquired Timmins in a trade last month from the Pittsburgh Penguins, and he is one of 11 NHL players who filed for salary arbitration. Puckpedia.com originally reported the arbitration date.
Former Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Conor Timmins, left, reaching for the puck against the Ottawa Senators’ Fabian Zetterlund during a game in March, is now a member of the Sabres.
Timmins, a defenseman and a restricted free agent, has filed paperwork to ensure he receives a raise over the Sabres’ original qualifying offer, which was not disclosed. He scored three goals with 12 assists in 68 games last season with Toronto and Pittsburgh, and his last contract was a two-year deal with an average annual value (AAV) of $1.1 million.
Timmins enters his seventh NHL season and has six goals with 40 assists in 159 NHL games.
Arbitration hearings are scheduled for July 20 to Aug. 4, but the Sabres and Timmins can continue to negotiate toward a new contract until the start of the hearing.
Of the 11 players who filed for arbitration earlier this month, four have negotiated new contracts and signed with teams.
