We’re not quite sure what we expected Belle’s reaction to EJ being shot would be on Days of Our Lives, but we didn’t really expect it to be declaring her love to him while comatose in the hospital — just as Sami walks in! But here we are. We guess, at the very least, we can take Belle off the shooting suspect list. One suspect we’re a whole lot less sure of though, is Sami.

On the one hand, Martha Madison was more than happy to see Sami back in town once again. As she shares with Soaps.com that, “I always just want Alison Sweeney back. I just love having her there. She’s so spunky and adds so much to the whole canvas. And obviously, I love my scenes I get to do with her because there’s so much history there.”

On the other hand, Madison’s character doesn’t share the same sentiment! When asked about Belle and Sami’s relationship, Madison laughs, “Well, contentious would be a good word! I mean, [Belle] is in the sack with her sister’s ex-husband. Not really her finest moment! And I think nobody knows how to needle Belle the way Sami does.”

And if Sami’s first moments of condescending greeting didn’t tip us off at the end of Wednesday’s episode, “Yeah,” Madison warns, Sami’s “not gonna be too pleased about [Belle sleeping with EJ] — but she has her own life going on.”

As Sweeney shared, Sami’s being forced to revisit EJ’s rape and Johnny’s conception, which is something the actress never imagined would happen after all these years. That’s going to be front and center. And, in fact, Sami’s own history with EJ, while infuriating her, does open up a little understanding between sisters.

Whether or not Sami still loves EJ may be a moot point. She tends to react, then think things through. But as Madison points out, “Nobody knows how irresistible EJ is more than Sami, right? I think, somewhere, she kind of gets that. This happened to her too. And, in a weird way, they can kind of bond over that a little bit. But it’s still very soapy.”

In the end, through the good and the bad, Madison is just thrilled to have Sweeney back and to reunite Belle and Sami, even if it is only briefly.

“There’s always the family dynamics to play, and it’s fun to do that with someone who gets it,” Belle’s portrayer explains. “I think Sami says and does all the things that Belle sort of internally does, but full of guilt and shame. I love those kinds of scenes because there’s so much happening in them. But I also think that Belle and Sami have also had some very sweet moments, even as sisters who don’t get along, but still are sisters. I think she’s very good at finding those moments.”

But still, Madison warns, be ready, because, “As Sami does, she comes back with surprises every time. I’ll just leave it at that!”
