Scheana Shay is opening up about questioning her sexuality around the time she began dating husband Brock Davies.
In her memoir, My Good Side, Shay recounts a fling she had with a female friend, referred to only as "DD" in the book, in the months before she met Davies and up until they became exclusive.
The Vanderpump Rules alum, 40, reveals in her book that this relationship caused her to wonder if she was bisexual.
Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE, Shay says she doesn't think she "got to fully explore" that side of herself because of the timing of meeting Davies.
"I think if it had been a few more months, maybe we would've taken things to another level, but we were such close friends who drunkenly made out and would hold hands and go on our little dates and stuff," she admits. "But it wasn't something that developed into more, because I did meet Brock and there was that spark right away, and I think she knew that."
Shay adds that she doesn't think she or "DD" were "necessarily ready to have the talk" of whether they should take things to the next level at the time.
"It was an inner battle that I had to rejection to say it out loud," she explains. "So again, I just kept it in and didn't really tell anyone how I was truly feeling until writing this book."
In My Good Side, Shay detailed her fling with "DD," whom she met at Stagecoach in April 2019.
When the two returned to Los Angeles after the music festival, Shay revealed they went out to dinner at Craig's in West Hollywood and held hands.
"We didn't care if the paparazzi snapped pictures, we were happy to be seen together," she wrote, later writing that later that night, at TomTom, "DD" kissed her "out of nowhere, which I wasn't expecting but really enjoyed."
Shay said for the next couple of months they would get drunk, make out and tell people they were dating, but "it never went beyond that."
"The whole thing was very confusing, so a million questions would run through my mind when I tried to unpack our relationship. Was I bisexual? Was I just attracted to her?" Shay wrote. "I had been into other women in the past, but I'd never had the level of feelings I had for DD, and I didn't understand why."
Shay went on to reveal that, after she and Davies began dating exclusively, she tried to remain friends with "DD" for a while, but they "grew apart as we began talking less and less."
Shay also tells PEOPLE she has no regrets for how things ended up because she knows "Brock is my person."
"Our relationship isn't perfect — I don't think any marriage is, but I think he's perfect for me," Shay gushes about Davies.
Shay calls Davies "an incredible partner to me" and "an incredible father to Summer," their daughter whom they welcomed in April 2021.
"I think overall with this book, the lesson I want people to take away is that your past doesn't define your future," the reality star says. "That's something that we're working on all of the time, just overcoming things from our past and growing and learning and being a better version of ourselves."
