Sean McDermott doesn't mince words with bold statement on how Bills fan-favorite can lock up his spot on the 53-man roster

The Buffalo Bills may have lost the preseason matchup against the New York Giants, but the team gained some valuable insight on a slew of players that they're hoping can make an impact when the regular season rolls around.

Sean McDermott doesn't mince words with bold statement on how Bills fan-favorite can lock up his spot on the 53-man roster

For those hoping to see Tyrell Shavers get some more reps or see an increased role, McDermott laid out the blueprint for what the talented WR needs to add to his game to crack the 53-man roster.

McDermott carried on throughout the presser, highlighting the team's strengths and weaknesses and what he was hoping to gain from the experience. That's when the topic of one Tyrell Shavers was brought up, and the Bills' Head Coach is turning heads with what he said about the rising star WR.

McDermott was asked point-blank about Shavers, "How about with Shavers? 'Cause he keeps making plays… Can he help you with special teams and help himself in that case?"

Wasting no time, McDermott offered, “Yeah, that’s going to be big for Shaves. We feel like we know what he can do out at wide out and things, and he continues to show us that. Okay, now, how good can you become on special teams, and what phases or how many phases can we get out of you? Again, just in terms of versatility and the value overall.”

We knew coming into the matchup that Shavers had been performing well at camp and had been given increased opportunities with injuries derailing that position group. While many had thought it would be a healthy dose of both Elijah Moore and Tyrell Shavers, Shavers was the one who stood out the most in just one preseason matchup.

The rising star WR finished the day leading the team in receiving, which was capped off with an impressive 58-yard catch that had the fanbase more than a little excited.

Head Coach Sean McDermott was taking questions from the media immediately following the contest. To no one's surprise, McDermott started off talking about the current situation surrounding James Cook.

Cook, shockingly, showed up on the field in full uniform and even competed in a few drills before ultimately sitting out the contest. McDermott expressed his frustration before anyone else could even ask him about it.

The preseason is a dress rehearsal for the regular season, with the team trying a host of new things for multiple players to see if they have what it takes to crack the 53-man roster. Shavers, despite it being a dress rehearsal, deserves a standing ovation for what he was able to accomplish.
