Country music singer Kenny Chesney was joined by several special guests at the Sphere in Las Vegas over the weekend.
Denver Broncos coach Sean Payton -- as well as fellow NFL coaches Kevin O’Connell and Andy Reid -- are featured in photos Chesney shared on his social media pages on Sunday.
Payton and Chesney go way back -- Payton is featured as a high school football coach in the music video for Chesney's 2010 song "The Boys of Fall."
Payton invited Chesney to a training camp practice in 2024, and the coach appeared on stage at the singer's concert at Empower Field at Mile High last summer.
Payton said last summer that his friendship with Chesney goes back 23 years.
"The first time I ever met him was in 2002," Payton recalled last June. "I was with the New York Giants as the offensive coordinator. We had a practice, and he was just hitting his stardom. There was a concert that night that he had, and the next morning our head coach called me and he said, ‘Hey, we have a problem.’ And I said, ‘What’s the problem?’ He said, ‘We had 17 players miss bed check.’ Then when he told me who the players were, I knew they had to have been at that concert.
"I think it was some kind of coup organized by Jeremy Shockey with the idea being that, ‘If we stay together…’ This past offseason, Dan Campbell, who is in Detroit now as the head coach, sent me a copy of his fine letter because he was one of the players that missed bed check. I think it was $1,600. Now the good news for us is I think he plays Saturday night here, and the players — fortunately for me — are off on Sunday."
Fortunately, Broncos players didn't have to miss curfew to watch Chesney in 2024 as his schedule lined up with one of Denver's off days at training camp. This summer, Chesney's concerts will be held at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
