In his next role after starring in 9-1-1: Lone Star as Carlos Reyes, Rafael L. Silva moves to North Carolina to partake in the saga of the Buckley family. Created by seasoned showrunner Kevin Williamson (Dawson's Creek, The Vampire Diaries) The Waterfront is an upcoming drama series about a fishing family struggling to keep their empire afloat. Silva plays Shawn Wilson, a newly employed bartender for the Buckley family who is intrigued by them and has a secret that could change the family forever. The show also stars Holt McCallany, Maria Bello, Jake Weary, Melissa Benoist, Humberly González, Danielle Campbell, and Brady Hepner. Netflix released some images, previewing the eight-episode season that debuts on June 19. The official series description reads:
For decades, the Buckley family has ruled Havenport, North Carolina, dominating everything from the local fishing industry to the town’s restaurant scene. But their fishing empire has started to crumble as patriarch Harlan Buckley (McCallany) recovers from two heart attacks, and his wife Belle (Bello) and son Cane (Weary) venture into the deep end to keep the family businesses afloat.
As their attempts spiral out of control and into treacherous waters, Harlan steps back in to take command. Facing her own demons, Buckley daughter Bree (Benoist) — an addict in recovery who’s lost custody of her son — finds herself entangled in a complicated relationship that could threaten the family’s future forever.
Could Rafael Silva Play Carlos Again?
9-1-1: Lone Star ended its five-season run in February 2025. The show was untimely canceled, and it felt like there was more to explore with the characters, especially Carlos. There had been talks of creating a spinoff centered on Carlos and his new job and family, and Silva told TV Guide that he would be open to reprising the character. "I definitely wouldn't shy away from continuing to tell his story — him being the leader of his [own] story — but it has to be complementary to the [9-1-1] world," the actor said. "It is not about Rafael being this [character again]. It's about Carlos existing. Why does he exist here, and what can we do to showcase this Latino queer man in a position of power? How does he live in the world? How does he influence people? How do people influence him, and what does he represent? What can he represent?" Silva added. "When characters like that come out, I think we shouldn't discard them so easily," he concluded. There is still no word on the spinoff.
