Seth Rogen Torches Reality TV’s Worst Villain, but This Isn’t His First Bravo Hot Take

Jax Taylor may be reality TV’s ultimate villain, but even celebrity Bravo superfans were stunned by just how far he has fallen — this includes actor-comedian Seth Rogen. The actor didn’t hold back when slamming the former Vanderpump Rules star's behavior, specifically toward his ex, Brittany Cartwright, calling him "just a bad person," questioning if Taylor deserves to remain on TV at all.

But this isn't the first time Rogen has had a hot take on Vanderpump Rules — and recently took this obsession into real life as a gift for his wife's birthday.

Why did Seth Rogen Recently Blast Jax Taylor?

After Vanderpump Rules, Taylor and Cartwright starred in the spinoff, The Valley, a series that features an ensemble cast and follows the couple's life as parents post-Vanderpump. But Season 2 brought to light their marital issues and Taylor's problematic history. Being a Bravo superfan, Rogen's hot take was: "I don't think Jax should come back at this point," he told PEOPLE . "He's a pretty, maybe, just bad person. We can say that he's been that way for 20 years on television or however long it's been — he doesn't seem like he's going to change. He seems no better. Maybe he seems worse the older he gets, I think, in a lot of ways."

Rogen was turned off by the first episode of The Valley season 2 reunion. During the episode, Cartwright detailed alleged verbal and emotional abuse she suffered from Taylor, including claims that he body-shamed her, and lied about paying their mortgage bill. It was the final straw for Rogen.

"I did watch the first episode of the reunion already this morning, and, I mean, he was so f---ed up," Rogen said. "What a f---ing a--hole. Yeah, a very bad, bad, bad character."

Rogen has been open about his Bravo obsession, especially Vanderpump Rules. He shared his love of the show with his wife Lauren when he took her to Ariana Madix and Katie Maloney's sandwich shop, Something About Her, for her birthday. "We're just fans," he said on The View. "We've watching them to open this goddamn sandwich shop for four seasons." He then admitted, "I get more starstruck around reality show people ... than any celebrity." Rogen joked that the reason is because "You actually kinda know them." Emphatically adding, "Vanderpump's real!"

He previously said the show has also gotten him through difficult times and has used the show as escapism, specifically when his dog died in 2023. “Luckily, I was able to add in a lot of joy on top of all the sadness I was feeling. Time with family and friends, trips to Italy and France, our always epic Thanksgiving, and of course, Vanderpump Rules – which we watched all over the world and provided the best distraction when the waves of grief came crashing in,” his wife wrote via Instagram at the time with a photo of them streaming the show. “Those people have done a real service!"

Jax Taylor’s Redemption Has Arc on 'The Valley' Has Been a Roller Coaster

Rogen's hot take on Taylor is pretty widely held. After Cartwright filed for divorce, Taylor seemingly began a healing journey, but it’s been hard to convince those close to him, mainly Cartwright. He entered into rehab and admitted drug and alcohol issues, but Taylor says she feels it’s a ploy to gain public sympathy.

Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE, Cartwright had mixed feelings about her ex’s revelation. "I'm glad that he finally admitted to what was really going on,” she said. "For the first time, I can speak openly about the extent of trauma he's instilled on our family over the years," she continued. "I've tried desperately to help him without success. I pray that one day he completely knocks this addiction, but I'm skeptical. His behaviors are still alarming and his treatment plan seems to be the bare minimum."

She said dealing with the fallout with their toddler son has been the most complicated aspect of the ordeal. "I'm trying to navigate this as best as I can for my son and I, but every day is still a challenge and very difficult. Jax has caused an enormous amount of damage and I have very little trust in him at this point. My only hope is that one day, he will be a better person for his son,” she said.

Part 3 of The Valley Season 2 reunion airs on Tuesday, Aug. 12 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on Bravo. Episodes stream the next day on Peacock.
