During a recent interview with Deadline, Hatosy discussed his enjoyment of working alongside Jason Beghe, who plays Sergeant Hank Voight in Chicago P.D. Hatosy admires Beghe and his lengthy tenure as Voight, along with the actor's work ethic in making his character as realistic as possible. Hatosy particularly liked trying to humor Beghe on set. Read Hatosy's quote below:
It was nice to be here alongside [Jason Beghe], trying to annoy him, because he's got this unmoving face. No, we had a lot of fun. I was really excited to share scenes with him, and seeing how somebody who's been playing a character for that long is still excited about the process, working hard, and figuring out how to make it real. It was a joy.
Hatosy's recent comments on working with Jason Beghe on Chicago P.D. highlight the actor's admiration for the Dick Wolf show and its lead star. Considering how serious the One Chicago show is in terms of its dark subject matter and its hard-edged characters, Hatosy enjoyed rising to the occasion of playing a complex villain who challenges Voight more than ever in pushing the Sergeant's limits.
Reid and Voight crossed paths several times in season 12, as the Deputy Chief sought to control everyone in Chicago, including criminals and the police. Reid nearly had Voight and his Intelligence unit permanently disbanded because of Officer Dante Torres' illegal relationship with his CI, Gloria Perez. Voight eventually sets up Reid's murder after several attempts to take him down by-the-book.
Reid was the perfect nemesis for Voight because both men are skilled detectives who have gone beyond the law. The Deputy Chief even goes as far as to say that they are the same, but as Reid suffers his fate, he tells Voight that he's worse than him after having him shot down.
Reid represents the corrupt side that Voight has tried to stay away from, but couldn't since that was the only way he could bring down the Deputy Chief. Hatosy enjoyed going toe-to-toe with Beghe's Voight as Reid in order to display the intense showdown between these tough men.
While it's unlikely that Hatosy will return as Reid in Chicago P.D. season 13, the late Deputy Chief could make a special appearance as Voight's conscience. Hatsoy's skillful performance as Reid shows he's no stranger to playing villainous roles, as he portrayed serial killer Boyd Fowler in the fifth season of Dexter. Perhaps Hatsoy has more villain roles in his future.
