“She Knows His Ass Is Lying”: 9-1-1 Fans Lose Their Minds Over Buck And Maddie’s Conversation About Him & Eddie

This article contains spoilers for 9-1-1 season 8, episode 11, "Holy Mother of God."

9-1-1 fans are losing it over a very revealing conversation between Maddie and Buck, with wild responses to some of the dialogue between the two siblings. The bulk of 9-1-1 season 8, episode 11 focuses on the fraught reunion between Captain Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) and his estranged mother Ann (played by Oscar nominee Lesley Ann Warren). But the standout scene may be between the Buckley siblings, as Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) gently prods Buck (Oliver Stark) about his love life.

The short scene has gone viral on social media, with long-time fans of the series commenting about the fact that Buck is nowhere near ready to confess his feelings for his best friend Eddie (Ryan Guzman). Some viewers noted that Maddie knows Buck is in denial about Eddie, pointing to Hewitt's expressions in the scene. Others noted that Maddie must be so tired since she's tried to nudge her brother about Eddie before.

@mavellarke gets straight to the point, saying Maddie knows "his ass is lying."

Maddie's obvious exhaustion is pointed out by @softestbuckley.

@ravibuckleydiaz reminds viewers that Maddie has been trying to get her brother to confront his feelings about Eddie.

@DIAZLoKI thinks it's a dream come true for the show to finally talk about the potential pairing.

The excited reaction of fans to Maddie saying "It wouldn't be so crazy" is reflected in @lwtsxtlsb's comment.

Some fans like @dstorms19 are thrilled the romance has been officially acknowledged by the show.

Now that it has finally been addressed, @czernyism excitedly points out that Maddie is the "#1 BUDDIE SHIPPER."

Why Fans Are So Convinced Buddie Is Happening (& What It Means For The Show)

There Are Too Many Signs

From the emotional goodbye in 9-1-1 season 8, episode 10 to everything that happens in the latest installment, it is hard to shake the feeling that something significant is happening with Buck and Eddie. Maddie not only raises the question. But when Buck denies having feelings for Eddie, saying that he isn't pining for his straight best friend, Maddie bites her tongue. Based on Maddie's expression, she clearly has more to say. She chooses not to.

"Holy Mother of God" is directed by cast member Aisha Hinds and written by Taylor Wong & Darek Cioch.

Still, the most significant moment for Eddie and Buck happens thanks to Buck's ex Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) when he makes a surprise appearance in the same episode. Tommy refers to Eddie as competition for Buck's affections. Tommy then scoffs dismissively when Buck says Eddie is straight. It's difficult to imagine why the show would introduce the question of Buddie so fervently now, if not to address it further.

Something Is Definitely Happening

Fans of 9-1-1 have watched other shows. And, in any other, just about, this level of focus on the relationship between two characters is a giveaway that a significant shift is looming. In this case, though, it's a bit more historic since it is in direct conversation with something a lot of viewers have wanted to see since Eddie was introduced in season 2.
