The upcoming Sheriff Country series is building out its ensemble with a procedural veteran. A new report from Variety reveals that CSI: Vegas veteran Matt Lauria has joined the cast of Sheriff Country, the Fire Country spin-off series led by Deadpool veteran Morena Baccarin. This news comes not long after it was announced that Christopher Graham and Michelle Weaver will also star in the series, which will follow Mickey Fox (Baccarin), a straight-shooting sheriff who investigates criminal activity in the small town of Edgewater while also dealing with her ex-con father (W. Earl Brown). Mickey is the stepsister of Cal Fire division chief Sharon Leone (Diane Farr) and the aunt of Bode Donovan (Max Thieriot), who will also work as a writer and director on the series.
Lauria can be seen in 41 episodes of CSI: Vegas as Josh Folsom, but he’s also been in plenty of other projects you might be familiar with. He stars in four episodes of Outer Range, the sci-fi western series starring Josh Brolin that’s streaming on Prime Video. He plays Trevor Tillerson in the series. Lauria also played a small role in Shaft, the 2019 R-rated buddy cop movie led by Samuel L. Jackson that also stars Jessie T. Usher (The Boys) and Titus Welliver (Bosch). Lauria plays Major Gary Cutworth in the film, which is currently only available to rent or purchase on Prime Video. Details about his role in Sheriff Country are being kept under wraps for now, but he’s reportedly going to play a major role in the series, which is expected to air sometime this year.
What Do We Know About the Next Season of ‘Fire Country’?
Fire Country recently wrapped up its third season with an explosive finale that also saw the series ditch two stars, who are confirmed not to come back in Season 4. This was met with blowback from fans, many of whom claimed that the show would not be the same without them. Showrunner Tia Napolitano also recently mentioned in an interview that the writer's room for Season 4 would begin in the next few weeks, which could lead to the series returning to CBS sometime in 2026. With Sheriff Country set to air this year, it’s entirely possible that seasons of Fire and Sheriff Country could alternate on CBS for many years to come.Sheriff Country is expected to premiere sometime this year.
