‘Sheriff Country’ Casts ‘The Lincoln Lawyer’ and ‘The Pitt’ Alums as Series Regulars

As the highly anticipated spin-off series Sheriff Country starts to take shape at CBS, new names start getting added to the slate of main stars. Today, the network announced through Deadline two pretty big newcomers that will help elevate the story of the new procedural series: Christopher Gorham and Michele Weaver have joined the show as series regulars. The spin-off is yet to get a release date, but at this point CBS is eyeing the 2025-2026 schedule to debut the first season, probably close to its mothership series Fire Country.

While CBS hasn't unveiled a full synopsis for Sheriff Country, we do know that the series will follow no-nonsense Mickey Fox (Morena Baccarin) as she patrols the streets of Edgewater and investigates cases from the small town. She is the stepsister of Fire Country's Sharon Leone (Diane Farr) and the aunt of Bode Donovan (Max Thieriot). The two new characters are directly connected to Mickey: one by profession and the other by romance.

Weaver will play Cassidy, a deputy in the Edgewater County Sheriff’s Office who looks up to Mickey and was inspired to join the sheriff's department due to Mickey's talent. The problem is, Cassidy tends to put Mickey on a pedestal, which hints at two possible arcs for the newcomer: realizing that her "hero" can be flawed and needing to establish a name for herself by discovering what kind of detective she wants to be. Weaver previously starred in OWN's Love Is_ and was recently a guest on Disney+ Star Wars series Ahsoka and Max hit medical show The Pitt.

Family Trouble Is Brewing for Mickey Fox in 'Sheriff Country'

Gorham's character will hit a lot closer to home for Mickey. He will play Travis, who is a lawyer and the sheriff's ex-husband. As if that wasn't fuel enough for a complicated relationship, they have a daughter, Skye (yet to be cast), who struggles with addiction. Gorham rose to prominence after starring in Ugly Betty, and was recently in the main cast of Netflix's Insatiable and The Lincoln Lawyer. He also guest-starred on Matlock and NCIS: Los Angeles.

In Fire Country, we already got a little sneak peek of the kind of problems that Mickey will have to deal with. In the Season 3 episode "Dirty Money," we meet Mickey's estranged father Wes (W. Earl Brown), who is an ex-con and runs an illegal marijuana business. The episode made it clear that they don't have the best relationship, and since he will also be in Sheriff Country, we can expect some rough family drama coming Mickey's way.

CBS is yet to announce a premiere date for Sheriff Country. You can stream all episodes of Fire Country on Paramount+.
