The Buffalo Bills made a massive statement on Sunday in their 30-21 win against the Kansas City Chiefs.
With the win, the Bills are just a half-game behind the Chiefs for the top seed in the AFC with seven weeks remainder.
Now it seems that Bills and Chiefs fans weren't the only ones who tuned in to the matchup of AFC juggernauts.
Per the NFL, the game averaged 31.2 million viewers for CBS, making it the most-watched game of the season so far. Not only was it the most-watched game this year, but it was one of the most-watched games ever, as it ranks in the top-10 most-watched NFL games on record in any window aside from Thanksgiving.
Excluding Thanksgiving and Christmas Day games, the matchup was the NFL's most-watched regular-season game since a game between the New England Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts in 2007.
Similar to that matchup in 2007, which featured superstar quarterbacks Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, the game on Sunday featured two of the best quarterbacks of the current generation.
Patrick Mahomes, who is a three-time Super Bowl champion, three-time Super Bowl MVP and two-time league MVP, has often been compared to Brady in his young career. Meanwhile, Josh Allen is a one-time All-Pro and multi-time Pro Bowler, and similar to Manning early in his career, has yet to win a Super Bowl.
The game on Sunday proved that the Bills and Chiefs are not only two of the NFL's best current franchises, but also two of their most popular ones. ... which maybe isn't so shocking after all.
