The mom of one of Taylor Swift’s ex-boyfriends has responded to a post slamming her rock star son.
Denise Welch is a British TV personality and mom to The 1975 front man Matt Healy, who had a brief fling with Swift in 2023 after knowing each other for some years.
Healy recently got engaged to model Gabbriette Bechtel, who announced the news on her Instagram on Tuesday.
But when a person slammed the timing of Healy’s engagement news, Welch was having none of it.
“Engagement aside if anyone thinks the timing of this isn’t intentional you don’t know a bitter toxic man (I do actually think they are a good couple and I hope he is normal to her otherwise),” wrote self-described Swift fan, Kelly Keegs on X, formerly Twitter.
Another person with the handle, @pls_respect replied to Keegs saying, “Not everyone’s lives revolve around Taylor Swift.”
It was that post to which Welch reacted with a series of crying, laughing face emojis.
Newsweek has contacted Welch’s representatives by email for comment.
Swift fans have theorized that there are many reference to her relationship with Healy on her latest album, The Tortured Poets’ Department.
But when asked about TTPD on the U.K. TV panel show Loose Women, Welch, who regularly features on the show, gave a diplomatic reply.
“I wasn’t aware she had an album out at all,” she quipped, adding, “I haven’t heard anything about it. Anyway, I wish her all the best.”

Healy himself gave his thoughts on the album just days after it was released in April.
“My diss track? Oh! I haven’t really listened to that much of it, but I’m sure it’s good,” he told paparazzi on April 24.
More recently Swift’s fans realized the singer had a long-standing connection to Healy.
In February 2009, Swift appeared on Loose Women, which was her U.K. television debut. On the show, Swift spoke about her newfound fame and body image, and she later performed “Love Story,” the lead single from her second studio album, Fearless.
A fan posted the appearance to X and it quickly went viral.
“No cause how are you telling me that Taylor FIRST uk live performance was on Matty’s mum tv show??? you can’t convince me the universe didn’t have a plan cause WHAT?!?” wrote @Lilorise.
Swift and Healy dated briefly in 2023 following her split from long-term boyfriend Joe Alwyn. The pair, who had been friends for years, had reportedly worked on new music together that was eventually scrapped.
