A debate has arisen regarding whether the Boston Bruins should demote top defenseman Charlie McAvoy once he returns to the lineup.
Charlie McAvoy has been out of the lineup since Jan. 11 when the Bruins concluded their mothers' trip against the Florida Panthers.
McAvoy is the usual defenseman running the Bruins' power play on the backend, but once he returns it might be a little different.
Since then, Mason Lohrei has been promoted to the Bruins top power-play unit, and it has looked much better. They might not have moved up in rankings in the league as they are still ranked 31st, but they have been able to get more goals since Lohrei was placed on the power play.
Bruins Network was asked on X if Mason Lohrei should continue running the top power play once McAvoy returns to the Bruins lineup, and it was argued that Mason Lohrei and David Pastrnak have been the biggest threats for the Bruins.
With Charlie McAvoy close to returning after practicing with the team the other day in a regular jersey for the first time since being injured, it will be interesting to see what the Bruins do with the power play once he does.
The Bruins seem like they are starting to find their groove out there, and hopefully with them close to getting McAvoy and Lindholm back it just makes them more of a threat.
