Should Cowboys Explore Amari Cooper Return?

When the Buffalo Bills traded for receiver Amari Cooper, it was seen as a move that would significantly help the offense and Josh Allen move the ball down the field.

But as we sometimes see with mid-season acquisitions, it doesn't always work out, especially when a player like Cooper suffers an injury in the first few weeks with his new team.

He had to learn a new playbook, get to know his teammates, and develop a wavelength with Allen - and it appears it didn't work.

Cooper, in his eight regular-season games, totaled just 297 yards and two touchdowns from 20 receptions, and in the playoffs, just six catches for 41 yards in three games.

But can that be due to his new surroundings and not getting time on the field with his new team? That is possible, but ESPN thinks that the Pro Bowler isn't the same player he once was.

And being exposed in that way is hurting the former Dallas Cowboys star in his bid for work.

"Cooper's tape is beginning to show signs of decline, but he is still a detailed route runner who can uncover at multiple levels of the field," ESPN writes. "In 14 games with the Browns and Bills last season, Cooper caught 44 passes for 547 yards and four touchdowns. In nine full seasons, he has topped the 1,000-yard receiving mark seven times and caught 64 career touchdown passes."

It can be easy to forget that Amari in 2023 posted 1,250 yards and five touchdowns from 72 receptions with the Cleveland Browns. So the talent is still there.

And that goes for the positive things in Dallas before the Cowboys trade-dumped him to Cleveland … even though there is a Cowboys Nation movement to try to bring him back to Dallas.

But last season wasn't Amari's best output, for whatever reason, and we have mentioned the possible factors.

Could it be worth running it back?

In Buffalo?

In Dallas?

Of course, money will play a factor, and the Bills have already signed Joshua Palmer to the roster, so spots could be limited.

Same thing in Dallas, where a No. 2 with CeeDee Lamb is needed … but with no buzz about a reunion.

Does anybody think that Cooper still has something to offer in 2025? A team-friendly deal might be what he’s left with.
