Should the Colts consider bringing back a familiar face ahead of the 2024 season

Colts có nên cân nhắc việc đưa gương mặt quen thuộc trở lại trước mùa giải 2024

Holder suggests that the Colts should sign CB Stephon Gilmore.

"Cornerback was expected to be one of the Colts' top priorities in the NFL draft, but the front office didn't select one until the fifth round. At this stage in the game, the team's best option is to reunite with Gilmore, who had two interceptions and 11 passes defended in Gus Bradley's system a couple of years ago."

Gilmore signed with the Colts late into the offseason, just before the 2022 NFL season. He appeared in and started 16 games that season, recording two interceptions and 11 pass deflections. His time with the Colts would end after just one year, with the team trading him to the Dallas Cowboys ahead of the 2023 season for a 5th-round pick. Last year, he started all 17 games for the Cowboys, recording two interceptions and 13 pass deflections.

Gilmore has completed two seasons since his last Pro Bowl nod in 2021, and he's even further removed from his most recent All-Pro selection in 2019. His best years are, without a doubt, behind him, but he's shown he can still be a legit impactful player for an NFL secondary.

Should the Colts sign Stephon Gilmore?

I agree with Holder that Gilmore would improve the Colts' CB room. But there's reason to believe that the Colts will see their young CB room take a step forward because of the promise they showed, as well as there being reasonable evidence that their inexperience played a factor in the bumps we saw last season.

If the Colts are going to make a move ahead of the 2024 season, I don't think it should or would be at CB. I think that move would come at safety. It's a position where they don't have a player on the roster who I think they can trust, and there are multiple solid vets to choose from on the market.
