Even after a multitude of rumors, it seems that Jacob Trouba is likely to remain with the New York Rangers.

Early on in the offseason, all signs were pointing in the direction that the Rangers would trade their captain due to financial reasons.

However, 14 days have passed since the start of free agency and Trouba is still yet to be moved.

ESPN’s Emily Kaplan spoke about Trouba’s future in New York.

“If I had to put my money on it right now, my gut is he will be on the Rangers opening night roster,” Kaplan told Jay Onrait on TSN. “Even though this was a really uncomfortable process over these last several days and weeks.”

“Unless something changes in the next three months,” Kaplan said. “He’s going to come back to this team, and we’re going to see what kind of captain he is.”

Despite rumors surfacing on a potential trade that would send Trouba to the Detroit Red Wings, nothing actually came of it.

At this point in the offseason, trading Trouba will be difficult and replacing him wouldn’t be an easy task for general manager Chris Drury either.

The best course of action for the Rangers is to keep Trouba for this upcoming season and try to mend the relationship with the captain.

While his game might not be where everyone wants it to be, Trouba is still a leader in the Rangers’ locker room and will likely be an important piece for the blueshirts moving forward if they want to achieve their ultimate goals.
