After the Packers released Cornerback Jaire Alexander, the position was left who a gapping hole.
Alexander who played 7 season with the Packers, had injury issues near the end of his time in Green Bay.
That led to his release earlier in June.
While the Packers added to their CB room during the offseason, there is still the questions.
Who will be the leader of this group is the main question fan have been asking.
The group is young and lacks experience.
But with the group they have right now and the coaches that are around them, can they do with what they have?
Options for CB number 1
Keisean Nixon is one of the top names that keeps popping up when it comes to being the leader of the CB room.
While Alexander was out for most of last year and the year before that, Nixon stepped up.
Last year Nixon had 88 tackles with eight for a loss.
He also had seven passes defensed, three sacks, an interception and a forced fumble
Nixon has all the skills to be the lead CB for the Packers and has the most experience in the Packers defense.
He has also earned praise from Packers coaches and staff.
Jeff Hafley said, “I think Keisean needs to get more credit than he’s probably getting for all that we’ve asked him to do.”
Halfey went on to say that he is proud of what Nixon has done.
Heading into 2025 Nixion is definitely the top candidate to be the Packers lead corner.
Carrington Valentine
Carrington Valentine is another option the Packers could have take over the top Cornerback position.
The 2023 7th round pick has often been the next man up during his time in Green Bay.
Valentine started 12 games as a rookie and was able to hold his own in 2023.
Last year Valentine had 22 tackles, four passes defensed, two INTs and two forced fumbles.
He also started the last 8 games of the season with Alexander out.
Valentine has the confidence to go along with his athleticism at the corner position.
Like Nixon Valentine has earned some high praise from his coaches as well.
Head Coach Matt LeFluer said “He’s been extremely coachable, a high-character guy,”
LeFluer continued to say “Busts his butt every day, has approached it the right way, so I’m excited for him. He continues to prove the more he plays, the better he gets.”
Nate Hobbs
Nate Hobbs is an interesting prospect to take the top cornerback position.
Hobbs signed as a free agent from the Raiders this past offseason.
While injuries have hampered Hobbs the past three seasons, The Packers hope Hobbs can return to his 2021 form.
In 2021 Hobbs had his best season statistically.
He recorded 86 tackles with 6 for losses, 1 interception and 7 passes defended.
During his time in Las Vegas Hobbs recorded 281 tackles, 19 passes defended and 3 picks in 51 career games.
Hobbs can play both inside and outside the parameter which can help the Packers.
He definitley has the experience to be the top cornerback for the Packers.
But the question is whether or not he can stay on the field.
That will be anwsered during the season.
Conclusion
The Packers definitely have some options for the top cornerback position.
While they lack experience being the top corner, they have experience playing key parts in their defensive roles.
Do the Packers need to sign another veteran corner?
The answer is no because the Packers have options when it comes to the top corner position.
They also have depth at the position as well which will help the position.
