Soap Star Goes Primetime! Al Calderon Joins NBC’s Brilliant Minds Season 2

Days of Our Lives spoilers suggest fans may not see as much of Javi Hernandez as they’d like to in the near future, as the character’s portrayer, Al Calderon, will hit the primetime screen, joining the cast of NBC’s Brilliant Minds, Season 2. More on this story, below.

Trading In Daytime for Primetime

As per Deadline, Season 2 of the drama will debut in September, and Calderon will join fellow regulars, John Clarence Steward and Brian Altemus.

The show was inspired by the work and life of famous neurologist and author, Dr. Oliver Sacks.

The premise of the show centers around Dr. Oliver Wolf and his team of interns as they investigate some mysteries that surround the human mind, while also navigating relationships both with colleagues and outside the hospital.

According to the Deadline report, Calderon will play Nurse Scotty Silva, a charming and charismatic guy know seems to know a lot about everything (and everyone); he’s also referred to as the “unofficial” Mayor of Bronx General.

Al Calderon Shares His Excitement

Of course, after it was announced, the Days star shared his big news on Instagram. Uploading a screenshot of the Deadline article, Calderon also added the following caption, “Hold up, lemme get my scrubs on right quick. Big thanks to my crew, my village, my gang—literally couldn’t do this without my right hand…”

As the cousin of Rafe Hernandez (Galen Gering) and Gabi Hernandez (Cherie Jimenez), Javi Hernandez entered the land of Salem in October 2024 and has settled in quite nicely.

He’s in a committed relationship with Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) and, in many ways, Javi has helped Leo on his road to redemption.

With that said, can Calderon juggle his duties in Salem and his new primetime gig? Could this mean Javi is on his way out of storylines? If that’s the case, it’ll still be some time before he’s written off canvas, as Days films several months in advance.
