No matter how you slice it, Johnny’s in hot water on Days of Our Lives. It may just be circumstantial, but all the evidence and the witnesses point directly to him as being EJ’s shooter. And now thanks to the chain reaction of Gabi’s memory leading to his arrest, his goose may just be cooked — just as he and EJ start forgiving each other! Let’s unpack this mess, shall we?
Johnny Is Headed for a Trial
Summer started last week, and now, it looks like Days of Our Lives is about to begin its big seasonal storyline. Remember when the writers teased what’s to come and promised Belle and EJ facing off in an epic summer court case after an arrest? Well, it looks like this could be it. Belle’s prosecuting Johnny and EJ’s doing his best to defend him.
And on the face of it, the fans aren’t having it — and I’m struggling with that idea, too. As Da1989 mentioned on Friday’s recap, “speaking of Belle, she shouldn’t even be prosecuting this case, she is Johnny’s aunt and dating EJ.”
Conflicts of interest are everywhere! Heck, pretty much as soon as the episode aired, viewers started a Message Board topic on it. Does it make for soapy drama that Belle is potentially already about to get into a massive battle with EJ while dating him and prosecuting his son and her own nephew? Without a doubt! Does it make legal sense? Nah.
Is Johnny Going to Prison?
But unless someone steps forward with a confession, there’s no easy way out of this. In the end, it’s just Johnny’s word that he didn’t do it against the evidence of the gun, his very public anger and threats against EJ, and Rachel and Gabi’s memories. And if EJ’s put on the stand, he’ll have to lie to keep Johnny out of trouble — which would mean framing someone else for the shooting. Because his memory doesn’t go past Johnny’s arrival with the gun.
So either EJ frames someone else blindly without knowing who shot him, or he admits he doesn’t remember the actual shooting… But he knows Johnny is innocent! So we’re pretty much down to a dramatic, last-minute confession or memory during the trial — which, for the love God, please be in a real courtroom!
Otherwise, as tvasmyescape put it on X/Twitter, “Gabi is about to have Johnny wrongfully sent to jail.” Which is almost funny with the amount of times she’s been wrongfully sent to jail!
To be clear, there’s absolutely no indication that Carson Boatman is going anywhere, but that doesn’t mean Johnny can’t be found guilty and thrown into prison for a bit. Which I’m pretty sure would put an end to “EJelle,” once and for all.
Stray Thoughts…
- Is anyone else getting annoyed with how pushy Alex is over this manuscript? After that promise Stephanie demanded to publish, we know this is going to blow up on them.
