Sarah’s at work when Xander calls to ask if he can visit Victoria, but midway through, he hangs up on her.
Maggie’s proudly going through graduation photos with Holly when the teen tells her she got into the university she wants in Paris. Maggie’s cautiously excited, but wonders why Holly decided not to go to Salem U. Holly’s worried about her mom and Eric. Maggie tries telling her granddaughter that the only people who can work out a relationship are the people in them.
“And even then, maybe it’s not worth it,” Sarah gripes as she walks in. She immediately apologizes for bringing the mood down, then they get into talking about Holly’s plans. She’s volunteering at the Salem Woman Shelter. And she’s going on a trip with Ari. Holly runs out, texting Doug if he’s still up for tutoring.
Back in the living room, Sarah opens up to her mom about how she’s not sure if she and Xander can tolerate sharing custody, even if that’s what both their lawyers insist. She then admits that just hearing Xander’s voice pulled at her. Maggie knows they still love each other. “We’ve never been further apart,” Sarah sadly tells her.
Maggie assures Sarah that her love did change Xander but, as her daughter sighs, he was not changed enough. He’s got so much anger and judgement. She can’t live with someone like that. Maggie understands, she felt that way about Victor — because she also couldn’t live without him.

She talks a bit to Sarah about her frustrations with Victor. Sometimes it was a struggle to find her way back and reconcile his two sides. In the end, she just had to find a way to live with it. Sarah admires her mom’s loyalty, but she doesn’t think she can do the same with Xander.
In the park, Doug meets with the guy he owes money. He doesn’t have the money but — the guy cuts him off and tells Doug he’s out of time. He needs to pay up. In full. Doug wants to know what will happen if he doesn’t, and the guy starts threatening Holly and all his Salem friends.

He gets Holly’s text and responds that he’s not up for getting his GED after all. “What?” Holly mutters.
Tate leaves a message with Sophia about the adoption appointment they’ve got coming up, but she’s busy stuffing clothes in a trashbag while their baby cries on the bed. She picks him up and promises it’ll all be OK.
She knows if anyone else sees him, they’ll make her keep him. “I’ll never get my life back,” she tearfully says. She puts on a hoodie, picks up her sleeping baby and tearfully apologizes for doing this to him before sneaking out..
Holly texts Tate and asks if she can come over, which he enthusiastically agrees to. She drops by and he gets a bit bashful, admitting it’s great to see her. It’s been weird since they graduated. But when she tells him she’s off the waitlist for Paris, he stops mid-congratulation. “Does that mean that you’re leaving?”
She’s not sure yet. She’s still enrolled at Salem U. Then she switches topics to admit she’s been struggling to get over him. She and Doug aren’t a thing, but she did think there might be. She was wrong, and nothing happened. “The only guy that I ever think about… it’s always been you.”
Same, he tells her. They kiss, then Holly pulls back to admit she’s still worried about Sophia. Tate looks her in the eyes and tell her she doesn’t have to.

Sophia gets back home and limps into her room, babyless. She sits down, crying softly and holding herself, then hugs the stuffed bear to her, sobbing “I’m sorry,” over and over. She eventually gets up, sees the voicemail from Tate and plays it. “It’s too late, Tate,” she tells herself. “Our baby has come. And now he is gone.”
Leo’s on the phone trying to track down Julie’s necklace, but getting nowhere. Javi comes in and shows off his new EMT outfit to his thrilled boyfriend. Leo wants to fool around, but Javi’s got to leave for his night shift.
Some time later, Javi’s at the hospital going over whomever he brought in with Kayla. It’s his second time that night at the hospital. She assures him that’s just how Salem is.
Steve visits Julie with necklace news: They have a buyer lead. The necklace was bought using a wire transfer and he has Austin (yes, that Austin) tracing it back to the bank it came from. Julie’s curious about the selling price — not because she cares about the money, but she imagined her mom picking it out in a jewelry store. But that weasel, Doug, stole it.

Steve tries telling her that Doug’s young, making mistakes, but Julie refuses to listen. He betrayed his own family before and he’ll do it again.
Steve heads out to the square, where he takes a call from Austin. He’s got a lead already, so Steve hangs up and calls Bo. “You’re not gonna believe this.” He stops by the hospital, telling Kayla they found the necklace owner and she happily congratulates him.
Kayla’s shift wraps and they’re about to head home, but then Javi rushes back in with a baby left at the fire station. Kayla takes the tot to examine him. He’s doing fine, almost full-term and is healthy. She tells Javi he’s been assigned a social worker, but his mother has 14 days to reclaim custody.
In the meantime it’ll go to a foster home and — No! Steve stops her. Maybe they were there for a reason, but Kayla tries to get him to see reason. They don’t have time. Javi jumps in with an idea.
Leo calls Doug, who’s in the square by now, to apologize and tell him he just doesn’t have the skills to find the necklace. Doug sits down, sighs and says the necklace is the least of his concerns. Leo tries telling him to cheer up, but Doug’s just miserable.
Outside of Sweet Bits, Bo calls Julie with the news that her necklace is on its way back to Salem. As she’s about to head back, she nearly runs into Doug, then tries her best to ignore him. He begs her to wait.

Julie demands to know what Doug wants and he tells her he tried everything to get her necklace back. “That’s no surprise,” Julie snaps. He’s thinking of leaving town and wants to apologize again. She’s sorry for welcoming him and trusting him and that he’s carrying her husband’s name. So buy a bus ticket and go. She pauses as she’s leaving to tell him the necklace is on its way back to her.
Maggie wishes she could help Sarah, but her daughter reassures her that she is, just by being there. It’s up to her to figure out a new way forward without Xander. “Are you saying you want a divorce?” Sarah doesn’t know.
Tate and Holly tell each other they missed each other and kiss again. And again. Sophia, meanwhile, catches her breath, pulls herself together and calls someone for help. (See below for who!)
Javi gets back home with a baby bassinet. “Whose baby is that?” Leo nervously asks. For now… theirs.
Next on Days of Our Lives, Sophia asks Melinda for help, and Brady encourages Sarah.
