Nikita Zadorov and Carson Soucy are facing supplemental discipline for their cross-checks against Connor McDavid.
EDMONTON -- Entertainment is not in short supply for this series.
The Edmonton Oilers lost their first game at home to the Vancouver Canucks by a 4-3 final score. It was a game filled with goals, drama, poor officiating and physicality galore.
With 50 hits to their credit - the Canucks certainly brought toughness to their game last night. Chief among them was Nikita Zadorov. While he only had two recorded hits for the game, he was a physical presence all night.
One of the biggest moments was when Zadorov hit Evander Kane into the Oilers' bench. It happened near the end of the second period - and the aftermath of it resulted in a penalty for each team.
That wasn't where the rough stuff ended - in fact, the end of the game couldn't stop the physicality. After the final buzzer sounded there was a physical exchange between Connor McDavid and Carson Soucy.
After the whistle had blown, McDavid and Soucy were behind the net when Soucy gave McDavid an aggressive shove that knocked McDavid off balance. As he regained his balance he slashed Soucy in the leg. Soucy immediately retailiated with a slash to McDavid's leg.
Then Zadorov came behind McDavid and cross-checked him in the back. As he was falling Soucy cross-checked him in the face.
It appears that the department of player safety has taken an interest into this scrum. Both Zadorov and Soucy will be facing consequences for their cross-checks in the scrum.
Zadorov has been fined the $5000 maximum allowed for his cross-check, while Soucy will wait for his hearing before knowing the full extent of his punishment.
