The Shaun of the Dead actor appeared on a panel at the Star Trek convention in Las Vegas recently, and offered a potential update for a future sequel set in the Kelvin universe. The classic sci-fi franchise was fully rebooted in 2009 with the film Star Trek, with 2013's Star Trek Into Darkness and 2016's Star Trek Beyond following after. Pegg played Scotty in all three films, and even had a writing credit for the third film.
According to the report by Trek Movie, Pegg greeted fans at Trek to Vegas 2025, where he revealed that he hopes to return to the franchise. Not only could he reprise his character, but he would reunite with some of his good friends from his time making Star Trek. According to the actor, the decision to make another Star Trek movie depends on scripts, and Abrams has seen a good number of those:
"J.J. [Abrams] has always said that there are scripts being developed and this and that. I think it's about time. It would be great to see us 10 years after the five year mission, where we are.
"If we make another Star Trek, I'll be so happy because I just want to see my friends again. I see them occasionally. They all live in Los Angeles. I saw Zoe [Saldaña] this year, which was lovely. I saw Karl [Urban] a couple of times when I was working on The Boys. But I miss Chris [Pine] and I miss John [Cho]. We've been through a lot together. We've been through good times, bad times. And I would love to be able to hang out with those guys again."
Skydance's Acquisition of Paramount Pictures Could Bode Well for the 'Star Trek' Franchise
Pegg's participation in the Trek to Vegas panel coincided with a very important milestone for the Star Trek franchise. The same day, Skydance Media took over Paramount Pictures in a multi-billion-dollar acquisition, giving CEO David Ellison enough power to make decisions in the content strategy branch. He will oversee everything that takes place within Paramount's headquarters, and Pegg revealed that the boss shares a passion for the beloved film and TV franchise:
"Well, I know David Ellison is a big Star Trek fan. I know he cares about the series. So I would love it. I would be delighted if we could make another film. I love those guys. And despite how we had a tragedy in our group [Anton Yelchin's death in 2016], which was extremely painful. It would be wonderful to come together again."
