Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 goes from horror to comedy to "another genre I can't mention," says Rebecca Romijn

Are we finally going to get that Star Trek mockumentary episode that one of Romijn's Strange New Worlds castmates suggested a while ago? Come on, Paramount+, give the people what they want

Having already done a musical episode and a few comedy-leaning stories, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has proven that it's willing to "boldly go" into plenty of different genre territories. But the journey isn't over yet - in fact, according to series lead Rebecca Romijn, there are even wilder warps into different genres in the fast-approaching third season.

The story comes from an article published by sci-fi outlet Reactor on July 16. Speaking to a roundtable of reporters ahead of Strange New Worlds' latest season, Romijn enticed reporters with tales of behind-the-scenes secrets waiting to be revealed.

"We really didn’t think we could outdo ourselves after season two, but season three is so strong," said Romijn, who plays Una Chin-Riley in the series. "We just continued to jump from horror, into straight-up comedy, into another genre that I can’t mention."

That's exciting Rebecca, as much as it is frustratingly cryptic. Over on the Popverse Slack channel, your pal and mine Jules Chin Greene posited that the genre Romijn doesn't want to spoil is actually a Western, considering how the series' first episode introduced Pike on his horse ranch. But what other genres could Romijn be hinting at? A Bridgerton-style period romance? A Squid Game-esque "death game?" Or might the producers finally listen to SNW star Celia Rose Gooding, who proposed an "Office parody" for the show's upcoming adventures?

In the real-world holodeck that is the Strange New Worlds writers' room, all of this and more is possible.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 debuts on Paramount+ July 17.
