‘Strictly Come Dancing’ Contestant Wynne Evans Dropped By BBC After Making Lewd Remark

Strictly Come Dancing contestant Wynne Evans, who was caught on camera making a lewd remark, has been dropped by the BBC.

Several months after Evans was recorded using the term “spitroast” during the Strictly Live tour, he posted an Instagram message in which he said “it breaks my heart to say the BBC has decided not to renew my contract so I won’t be returning to my radio show.”

A BBC spokeswoman said: “Wynne Evans is not under contract with the BBC. He is not returning to the mid-morning show on BBC Radio Wales and there are currently no plans to work with him.”

Evans has hosted a show on BBC Radio Wales for several years and he said he is effectively now going to transfer the show to Alexa and Google smart speakers and online. He is best known in the UK as the opera singer from the Go Compare adverts and also hosted a series, Wynne & Joanna: All at Sea, in the week he was outed for making the lewd remark.

Evans had spent the past few months being investigated by the BBC. Along with his use of the word, which is slang for a three-person sexual position, Evans had already attracted headlines for the wrong reasons while he was on Strictly late last year after being recorded having his hands pushed away from the midriff of his dance partner Katya Jones. The pair later apologized and said they were “messing around.”

Strictly was heavily under fire in 2024 due to the exit over alleged inappropriate behavior of two professional dancers. BBC Director General Tim Davie has recently spoken of the need for a “zero tolerance” approach to bad behavior after a workplace review found a small number of individuals’ behavior “disproportionately” affects the BBC’s culture, morale and reputation.”

Evans said to his followers today: “From the very depths of my heart — thank you. These past few months, your love has been the light in my darkest days. Every message, every word of encouragement, every moment you stood by me has carried me through more than you could ever know.”
