Susan Boyle's Operatic Falsetto Is Unreal on This Romantic Duet with a Male Icon
Susan Boyle made a name for herself by singing a classic song from a popular musical. The year was 2009, and Boyle, then 48, decided to try her luck on Britain's Got Talent. She auditioned with "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Misérables, and the response was more than enthusiastic. She hit the stratosphere, becoming a viral sensation and launching a blockbuster music career.
Boyle honored the genre that made her famous by releasing Standing Ovation: The Greatest Songs from the Stage in 2012. The compilation album features Boyle's covers of songs from musicals, including Mamma Mia!, Cats, and The Wizard of Oz.
She brought some superstar talent onto the album, as well, to further breathe new life into the tracks. Music legend Donny Osmond appears on two of Boyle's covers: "This Is the Moment" from the musical Jekyll & Hyde and "All I Ask of You" from Phantom of the Opera.
The latter is a wildly romantic song that features Osmond and Boyle singing directly to each other. "I'm here, nothing can harm you. My words will warm and calm you," Osmond sings to Boyle, to which she responds—in a gorgeous, near-operatic falsetto—"Say you love me every waking moment. Turn my head with talk of summertime."
It's a beautiful duet. Listen for yourself, below:
