Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s love story has been going strong for about two years. That might mean nothing for people who are not as in the spotlight as both Swift and Kelce are, and whose relationship hasn’t been at the center of so much scrutiny. But for these two, it feels like, after a couple of years, the relationship is close to hitting an important milestone. It’s just hard to tell what that is. Or, if that’s any of our business. However, reports about where things might or might not go next continue to come out.
Relationships are, still, about the people in them, not about the fans speculating. However, being a celebrity comes with a level of interest from people around them, one that both Swift and Kelce have navigated by being a little open about their feelings for each other. Swift, for example, shared for the first time in her Time 2023 Person of The Year profile, “This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell.”Yes, indeed, Kelce first revealed on his New Heights podcast in 2023 that he tried to give Swift his number via a friendship bracelet at her Eras Tour show in Kansas City. “We started hanging out right after that,” Swift added. “So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other.”
The rest, as they say, is history. And now, that history has taken them here. To Kelce’s rocky offseason after the Kansas City Chiefs lost the Super Bowl to the Philadelphia Eagles. To Kelce deciding to play one more season and what that means for his relationship with the singer. So, are Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce splitting? Here’s what we know.

RadarOnline reports that Kelce’s retirement decision might impact his relationship with Swift. “If Travis does retire, it could drastically change his and Taylor’s lives together. He would be around far more – and who knows, she may start to get sick of him!” the outlet said.
And since we now know that Kelce is, not retiring, with the player explaining on his podcast, “The biggest thing is that I f—— love playing the game of football. I still feel like I can play at a high level, and possibly at a higher level than I did last year. I don’t think it was my best outing. I think I let my guys down in a lot more moments than I helped them, especially if you look at my track record for how I did in years past. I want to give it a good run. I got a bad taste in my mouth on how I ended the year and how well I was playing and how accountable I was for the people around me,” the question now is, how does this affect his relationship with Swift.
RadarOnline had previously reported the singer was concerned about the decision. “Taylor is really gripped by fear over which way he’s going to jump because it has big ramifications for their relationship, but also, it is totally his call.”
“Travis is totally adamant that Taylor would never pressure him into anything, insisting she’ll support whatever he decides – but let’s be real, it’s no secret she’s itching to settle down.” There had previously been rumors that Kelce would propose if the Chiefs won the Super Bowl. His team, of course, lost, so that never came to pass. But it feels unlikely that their relationship could progress further while Kelce is still playing. So Kelce’s decision means Swift is basically putting off their future for at least another year.
“Imagine if he retires; they could finally have more time together!” the insider had told RadarOnline. “They both really miss each other when he’s off training or jet-setting around the country for games. But on the flip-side there is the danger they would then be spending too much time together and they both know this can spell the death of a relationship.”
Swift is, at this point, done with the Eras Tour, which also had her pretty busy while Kelce was training and playing. That probably meant she was looking forward to spending time with her boyfriend. And even without playing football, Kelce would have surely found ways to keep himself busy outside of the field. “If he retires now, Travis could snag some of those tempting opportunities he’s had to pass on because of his football commitments. Can you imagine? The money he could rake in as an NFL pundit, plus the Hollywood peeps hitting him up for TV and movie cameos,” the insider had also said.
However, with Kelce now committed to another year in the NFL, that will all have to wait. As will, probably, any plans Swift has of settling down.
