Nice to hear from a Bengals captain.
Throughout the offseason, we’ve seen and heard about the Cincinnati Bengals operating with more urgency.
Despite losing key players like DJ Reader, there’s no question this team still has the firepower to win a Super Bowl. However, this may be the best shot Cincinnati gets at reaching a Super Bowl.
That’s because guys like Tee Higgins, Mike Hilton, and Ted Karras are set to become free agents in 2025. And with Ja’Marr Chase likely signing a massive contract extension soon, there’s going to be a ton of cap space being committed to just Chase and Joe Burrow, making it harder for the Bengals to keep their own and sign outside free agents.
Speaking of Karras, he admits that there’s a heightened sense of urgency with this team following last year’s disappointing finish.
“I think we’re a lot more serious than we were these last two years, especially compared to last year,” Karras stated. “We’re not looking back, but I think that the way guys are coming into work, the way the coaches are addressing us, and the energy and enthusiasm that everyone’s bringing every morning is very pleasing to a leader. I’m excited to come in here every day. I just think we’re serious and ready to go.”
Karras isn’t the only one who sees it.
In an interview with Bengals.com’s Geoff Hobson, new safeties coach Jordan Kovacs, who’s been with the team since 2019, had this to say about the team’s veteran safeties:
“You feel a sense of urgency from the older guys.”
That’s what you love to hear.
