Teddi Mellencamp Shares Update on Her Relationship With Ex Edwin Arroyave

“RHOBH” star Teddi Mellencamp and Edwin Arroyave are technically still married, but Mellencamp filed for divorce in November of 2024. The couple decided to put the divorce proceedings on pause while Mellencamp undergoes treatment for stage 4 brain cancer.

According to Mellencamp, their relationship is still friendly, and Arroyave has even been staying with her amid her cancer battle. “We can live in the same house,” she shared during an appearance on “The Jamie Kern Lima Show.” “We don’t argue. I would be fine with him dating,” she revealed.

As for whether Arroyave is okay with Mellencamp dating, she admitted she wasn’t sure. She said that they’ve talked about it but she didn’t reveal the outcome of the conversation.

Her therapist, however, is fully on board with Mellencamp doing whatever makes her feel good these days. “She’s like, ‘anything that you want to do right now … do it,'” Mellencamp said.

Mellencamp & Arroyave Tried to Make Their Marriage Work

Mellencamp shared that she and her ex really did all they could to make their marriage work, including attending church together and going on special marital retreats. But at a point, things began to feel unsalvageable.

“I just wanted certain things that I don’t know if he didn’t know how to give,” Mellencamp revealed. “Then it all turned into I was no longer in a place where I would go above and beyond to make sure that this person was happy.”

She admitted that there came a time when she sort of gave up on the relationship. “I had kind of gone into, ‘Do whatever makes you happy. I’ve asked for enough years, and now I’m done,'” Mellencamp explained.

She also alluded to “past stuff” that was never fully reconciled, and how that affected the marriage. “I think he wanted me to just naturally work through it,” Mellencamp said. “I think my natural response was just to push back.”

Mellencamp Recognizes What She Needed

Looking back on the demise of her marriage, Mellencamp can see where things started to go wrong. And part of it was due to the fact that she hadn’t been open enough about what she needed after her cancer diagnosis.

“I think men so often want to be the protector and the provider … I just wanted somebody to come lay in bed with me and watch a movie,” she shared, adding, “I wanted someone to collapse with me for a little bit, not fix me.”

Mellencamp also shared some words of wisdom when thinking back on how she and Arroyave used to communicate, citing their “flippant” texts to one another. “If you’re in a marriage and you’re trying to figure out if you can make it work, give each other as much care as you can give,” she said.
