Teen Mom execs’ plans to end series revealed as cast thinks long-running MTV show is ‘canceled’ after ‘obvious sign’

TEEN Mom executives' plans for the long-running MTV series have been revealed ahead of the season finale.

Teen Mom: The Next Chapter is wrapping up its second season on MTV, as cast members believe this could be the end of the franchise, which first premiered as Teen Mom in 2009.

The U.S. Sun can exclusively reveal MTV executives have known all along when the popular series would be coming to an end.

"Show executives always planned for the show to end when the original kids turned 16," a show insider exclusively told The U.S. Sun.

"This has been told to the cast for years. But who knows what the network will ultimately decide."

The original kids include Maci Bookout and Ryan Edwards' son Bentley, Amber Portwood and Gary Shirley's daughter Leah, Catelynn Lowell and Tyler Baltierra's daughter Carly, who they placed in adoption in 2009.

Farrah Abraham and her late boyfriend Derek Underwood's daughter, Sophia, is also an original kid, but they are no longer with the series.

MTV celebrated the older children turning 16 with a sweet photo shoot earlier this year.

The cast members originally starred on Teen Mom in 2009 and then Teen Mom OG when the show returned in 2015.

The cast members then appeared on Teen Mom: The Next Chapter in 2023, as they consolidated Teen Mom OG and Teen Mom 2 into one show due to poor ratings.

Leah Messer, Briana DeJesus, Mackenzie McKee, Cheyenne Floyd, Ashley Jones and Jade Cline also appear on Teen Mom: The Next Chapter.

SHOW END?

The revelation comes after cast members fear this could be the last season.

“The cast thinks the show may be canceled because there’s rumblings about that, but honestly, no one knows what’s going on,” a source told OK! Magazine. “It’s been radio silent from production and, while that happened before, it seems… different this time.”

Cast members allegedly "aren’t thrilled with the way the show is being edited and the content they’re showing.”

The source said, “They’ve expressed their opinion for more relatable stories to be shown and for better content — but that all falls on deaf ears.

"Also, some of the cast filmed so much real s**t this season that the audience actually would find interesting and dramatic, but for some reason, production just chose to use none of it.

“Everyone is frustrated and it definitely feels like things cannot continue the way they are."

Cast members have also confirmed on social media that they are still waiting to hear back from production on next season.

RATINGS

Ratings have been low in recent years, especially this season.

The U.S. Sun could confirm the January 30, 2025 premiere brought in just 205,000 viewers.

The lowest ratings of the season were on February 6 with 184,000 viewers, while the highest episode had 267,000 fans watch on March 13.

The last episode that aired on May 8 had 223,000 viewers.

LAST-DITCH EFFORT?

The U.S. Sun previously reported if the series does move forward with another season, a casting change could be made to help boost ratings.

Controversial former cast member Jenelle Evans met with the show's longtime executive producer Larry Musnick earlier this month in Las Vegas.

"Jenelle is in talks to come back to the show," a source told The U.S. Sun.

Jenelle, 33, was briefly brought back for Teen Mom: Next Chapter last year.

Jenelle was fired from MTV in 2019 following an incident where her then-husband David Eason shot and killed their family dog.
