Teen Mom’s Amber Portwood Says It ‘Sucks’ That She’s Missing Her Daughter Leah’s 16th Birthday

Amber Portwood is sharing her feelings about missing one of her daughter's major milestones.

On the latest episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, the mom of two, 34, opened up about missing her daughter Leah's 16th birthday. Portwood, who has been navigating her estrangement from her daughter during the recent episodes of the series, said that it "sucks" that she couldn't celebrate this milestone age with her daughter.

“I haven’t slept for two days. I haven’t eaten for two days,” she said. "This s--- sucks that my daughter’s turning 16 and she don’t want to see me. She already made it known that she doesn’t want me in her life. I got her presents anyway, and I’m going to write her a card today.”

The teenager decided to spend her special day with her dad, Gary Shirley and his wife Kristina. She celebrated by having dinner with the duo.

Leah, who's in therapy, has been very vocal about her feelings on her relationship with her mom. During the episode, she explained during a confessional how she felt about not inviting Portwood to celebrate with her.

“I don’t want [Amber] around but I do have abandonment issues from it,” Leah explained. “It doesn’t hurt me that she’s not here. It’s just the fact that she did it in the first place. When she was supposed to be there is what’s affecting me.”

In addition to Leah, Portwood is also mom to son James, 6, with ex Andrew Glennon. Fans of the reality series have long been split on Portwood's inconsistent presence in her children's lives. In a TikTok Live, Portwood recently addressed some of those criticisms head-on.

When someone noted claims on the show that Portwood hadn't spoken to Leah in four months at the time of filming, the reality personality shared her side of the story.

"I was told to stay away. Not to stay away, but... all that stuff," she said, emphasizing she "would never" go that long without talking to her daughter.

"I want to have my daughter with me. I would love to have my daughter with me. I would love to do mom and daughter things. It’s up to her," she continued. "She doesn’t want to be around me at the moment, while she’s in therapy. I understand."
