Rocky romance. Teen Mom fans watched Ryan Edwards and Mackenzie Edwards (née Standifer) face many ups and downs in their relationship.
Despite Mack filing for divorce from Ryan in February 2023, reconciliation rumors swirled that August when she was spotted wearing her wedding rings while visiting him at his halfway house. While she shut down those rumors, the former couple’s divorce case was dismissed on February 19, 2024. However, Ryan filed his own divorce case just two weeks later.
Amid their divorce, the couple has been entangled in a custody battle over kids Jagger and Stella. Mackenzie won temporary full custody in July 2024 after her ex failed to show up to a court hearing, but a source exclusively told In Touch that the battle wasn’t over yet.
May 2016
Ryan and Mackenzie met for the first time when they crossed paths as she was leaving a gym in Chattanooga, she previously revealed on her now-defunct blog.
December 2016
The couple got engaged just eight months after they met.
May 2017
Ryan and Mackenzie tied the knot in May 2017 during a small ceremony with only their immediate family members. On the big day, he caused concern when he drove under the influence with Mackenzie in the car on their way to the ceremony.
“He’s an addict,” Mackenzie said of her new husband during the episode. “He doesn’t care about anything.”
November 2017
After Ryan’s first stint in rehab, the couple had a second wedding ceremony in November 2017 that was attended by their friends and family.
Mackenzie previously told E! News that their second wedding was “in the works since the day we got engaged.”
“Everything is just kind of at a resting place right now. It’s about our boys,” she told the outlet. “This is a day about us, yes, but it’s also about us becoming a family.”
March 2018
In March 2018, Ryan and Mackenzie announced that they were expecting their first child together. One day later, he was arrested for violating his probation that stemmed from his past heroin possession conviction. Ryan was eventually released on bail.
October 2018
Mackenzie gave birth to their first child together, son Jagger, in October 2018. Ryan – who was in rehab at the time after he was arrested for heroin possession in July 2018 – watched the birth via video chat. Ryan returned home later that month when he completed the program.
January 2019
Ryan continued to struggle with his addiction and was once again arrested for theft and heroin possession – which stemmed from a previous warrant – in January 2019. He served time and was later released from jail in April 2019.
January 2020
The couple welcomed their second child together, daughter Stella, in January 2020.
April 2021
Ryan and Mackenzie continued to star on Teen Mom OG until the season 9 reunion, which aired in April 2021.
During the special, Ryan’s parents, Jen and Larry Edwards, got into a yelling match with Maci and her husband, Taylor McKinney, over how often they were able to visit Bentley.
In light of the heated argument, the Edwards family was fired from the show.
2022
In March 2022, Mackenzie reflected on her decision to get in the car with Ryan while he was under the influence during a Q&A with fans via social media. “I was young, confused, nervous and made a very bad decision. I’m so thankful no one was hurt,” she said at the time. “We made peace with it a long time ago together.”
January 2023
Ryan hinted that he and Mackenzie were headed toward a split when he returned to Instagram after a nearly five-year absence on January 29, 2023.
“I trusted you but now your words mean nothing to me, because your actions spoke the truth,” a quote shared by the father of three read, which has since been deleted.
He captioned the image, “Your regret is coming … good lord showed me what I need but not what I wanted [sic].”
That same day, Ryan left a comment under a photo on Mackenzie’s profile that she previously shared of the pair in July 2022.
“Take wife down off this,” he wrote. “I’m not proud of being married to someone that stays out in bars and goes home with others guys [sic].”
Ryan continued, “Tomorrow can’t get here fast enough! Don you know what happens when u lay with dogs? … wait look who I’m talking to. And then blaming it on my addiction yea divorce is the right thing [sic].”
February 2023
After the posts from January were taken down, Ryan reiterated his claims that Mackenzie cheated on him in a February 9, 2023, Instagram post.
“If you guys have never seen a spineless slut this is one. They take your money sleep with anything that looks at them,” he wrote alongside a photo of Mackenzie flashing her bare chest in only a leather jacket. “But they must have a wife to [sic]. God what a joke. It’s sad really.”
February 2023
Ryan was arrested and charged with violating a protective order on February 10, 2023.
On February 9, Ryan was served with an order of protection by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. He was ordered to immediately leave a residence near Harrison Bay State Park.
Two days before the arrest, officers claimed that Ryan made threats against Mackenzie during a disturbing phone call, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by In Touch.
The mother of three told authorities that she and Ryan have a “history of domestic violence issues,” according to the legal document.
The paperwork included the most “threatening” portion of the phone call, which included Ryan telling Mackenzie, “You better f–king lie to the dudes who come and ask you, they’re gonna come and ask you at work. I’ll take the f–king ass whooping.”
February 2023
Mackenzie filed for divorce from Ryan on February 27, 2023. Both a restraining order and temporary custody were granted to her, In Touch can confirm. The Ashley was first to report news of the divorce.
March 2023
Ryan was arrested again and released on bond for stalking Mackenzie on March 1. The MTV star’s charges of stalking, possession of drug paraphernalia and violating a protection order were dropped during a court hearing on March 14, according to online records viewed by In Touch.
Ryan was ordered to six months in rehab in exchange for the dropped charge. After pleading guilty to harassment, Ryan was ordered to wear a GPS monitor and have no contact with Mackenzie.
April 2023
Ryan was arrested on April 7 by Chattanooga State Police after harassing Mackenzie, which was in violation of his probation.
Additionally, on April 7, Ryan was hospitalized and arrested after police found him “unconscious and unresponsive” in his truck according to an arrest affidavit obtained by In Touch.
Ryan’s truck hit a curb and came to a stop, leading officers to use a lockout kit to open the vehicle’s door. The MTV alum was removed and put in an ambulance where he received immediate medical care.
“A quick search of Ryan Edwards by EMS turned up a small bag of what appeared to be a crystal-type substance and a second small bag of what appeared to be a blue powder,” the arrest affidavit detailed. “Also in the pocket was a paper receipt that had been rolled up.”
It is not clear as of publication what the blue powder was. The 16 and Pregnant star was released from the hospital and subsequently charged with a DUI and simple possession, according to arrest records viewed by In Touch. Ryan is being held without bond and is set to appear in court on April 20, 2023.
July 2023
Ryan was sentenced to one year in prison at his April 2023 court hearing. However, after serving just three months of his sentence, he was released that July and ordered to complete a 28-day rehab stint. Following his completion, Ryan was transferred to a halfway house.
Despite Mackenzie wearing her wedding ring while visiting her estranged husband at the housing facility, she later shut down rumors that the pair had reconciled. Ryan met his current girlfriend, Amanda Conner, during his time in rehab and the pair moved in together in February 2024.
January 2024
The drama continued when Mackenzie called the police to report receiving “threatening messages” from her estranged husband.
“Shortly after Ryan and I left the residence, Mackenzie called back in advising Ryan texted her threatening messages,” the police report stated, according to The Ashley. “Mackenzie advised Ryan sent her a message stating, ‘You’re going to be hard-pressed to find another place to live and no one is going to survive anything,'” it continued, adding that Mackenzie was “scared Ryan could harm her.”
February 2024
Nearly one year after Mackenzie filed for divorce, In Touch confirmed that the former couple’s divorce case had been dismissed due to inactivity.
“There was never a Final Decree on this case. It sat for over 270 days with nothing filed so it was dismissed on Procedural Steps,” a county clerk told the U.S. Sun.
March 2024
About two weeks after her divorce filing was dismissed, Ryan filed for divorce from Mackenzie, In Touch confirmed via court records. Ryan included a proposed parenting plan in his filing for the couple’s two minor children.
June 2024
Teen Mom Chatter reported on June 25, 2024, that Ryan filed paperwork requesting a temporary parenting plan that would allow him to see Jagger and Stella after Mackenzie reportedly refused to let him have visits at his parents’ house.
“I have spoken to a source who is familiar with the situation and they told me that Mackenzie is the sole provider of their two kids, and she felt disrespected by The Edwards after the boundaries she put in place were not respected while in The Edwards care,” the report, shared via Instagram, read.
The insider told TM Chatter that an “incident” occurred during pickup one afternoon and became a “dealbreaker” for Mackenzie. However, they did not elaborate on what the incident was.
July 2024
After Ryan failed to appear at a court hearing associated with his request for a parenting plan, Mackenzie was granted temporary full custody, TM Chatter reported on July 8, 2024.
“According to my source, it is now a done deal. The temporary parenting plan will be finalized and transfer to the final divorce decree. Mackenzie won,” the report read.
A source exclusively told In Touch the same day, “She has temporary full custody since February 23. He requested this hearing and didn’t come. So technically she didn’t win anything. But she didn’t lose anything either.”
