Terry Dubrow Says He, Heather Dubrow Were Chosen to Have “Rainbow of Kids” With 3 LGBTQ+ Children
Terry Dubrow knows that not a single aspect of his life has been botched.
At times, the plastic surgeon will remark to wife Heather Dubrow that between son Nick, 21, twin sister Max, (who came out as bisexual) 18-year-old Kat (who shared she's gay) and 14-year-old Ace (who identifies as transgender) "We have such a rainbow of kids."
Marveling at their colorful life, he explained to E! News in an exclusive interview, Heather "used to say to me, not complaining, but just that it's unusual that we'd have such a rainbow," the star of E!'s Botched Presents: Plastic Surgery Rewind continued. "And I said, 'We were chosen for it. That's what we're supposed to do with our platform.'"
Perhaps, he joked, "Would I prefer to be chosen for being a multi-billionaire building hospitals all over the world like Bill Gates and treating disease and flying around in a Boeing business jet? Maybe. But that's not the platform that I was given by the universe. So, this is the platform, and I recognize that. And I'm grateful for that."
And he and his bride of 26 years certainly have their stance as endlessly supportive parents all sewn up.
"If we can change hearts and minds by showing how our version of a normal, supportive family can be, we're in," explained the surgeon, 66. "We try to be role models for these conversations, and that's the platform that Heather and I have been chosen to have and to put out there. And we're honored."
Cindy Ord/BravoPraising the "most fabulous mother and wife" for serving as his guide, Terry shared his straightforward prescription for any parents wanting to show up for their children in the same way.
"Act like there are cameras around and that you're going to be held accountable for the way you act," advised the reality show vet. "That immediately removes all of your preconceived douchiness you might have."
And then, quite simply, he continued: "Give your kids a supportive, loving environment. That's the perfect place to start."
For Terry, that means just listening.
"You may have your biases and your preconceived notions, but it ain't about you, it's about them, and they live in a completely different world than you grew up in," he explained. "We all know the right thing to do. We all know the right way to act with our kids."
Because love is love is love is love and he and Heather, 56, have plenty to spare.
"The more accepting and supportive we are to them publicly, which is the way we are for sure," he acknowledged, "hopefully that sends the message out."
And while he and Heather are always ready to step in as sounding boards, it's eldest Nick who serves as "the glue of our family," said Terry. "He's the one they go to on the sibling level to have these conversations, because they know if they go to us, it's going to be a whole thing."
Heather Dubrow/InstagramSometimes, he continued, "They just want to have more of a curbside consult. Because they do that with us, it's a procedure. So, our kids are very supportive of each other."
Plus they're feeling an extra boost these days now that they've made the move some 50 miles north from California's Orange County to Beverly Hills.
"This is a better place for my kids," said Terry, while noting they'll maintain their roots in the O.C. where Heather will still film The Real Housewives of Orange County. Though they're very much still entrenched in the southern California enclave, Terry added, the "rainbow shines brighter up here than it does in Orange County."
And his brood is enjoying life in full technicolor in a city where, he joked, "they don't roll the sidwalks at 9 p.m." Keep reading for a walk down memory lane.

"We now have two kids done with sophomore year of college, one applying to college, and one who’s almost done with middle school," Heather shared on Instagram. "Where does the time go!?!
