Houston Texans Agree to Massive 3-Year Extension with Star Wide Receiver

This was first reported by The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, as the 25-year-old would’ve been a potential free agent next offseason, but will now be a key piece in Houston. Along with Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell, Collins will still be the focal point of the Texans receiver trio that makes up a core group that is at the top of the league.

Star quarterback C.J. Stroud will have more chances to aim at a Super Bowl with this revamped team under head coach DeMeco Ryans and offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik.

Houston Texans: Extend WR Nico Collins to 3-Year Deal

Along with Russini’s report, ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirms the deal for Collins with the Texans is worth up to the max value of $75 million, including $52 million guaranteed. The per-year average would make him the 7th ranked among all wide receivers, right behind Philadelphia Eagles star DeVonta Smith at about $25 million per year.

According to Spotrac, the total value is the same as Smith as the 9th most among receivers and the practical guaranteed is 10th most among receivers. Collins will be under contract till 2027 and is currently the 10th overall highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL.

This is a great move for them, as the cap is only going up, and with other star wide receivers like CeeDee Lamb, Justin Jefferson, and even the Cincinnati Bengals duo Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins all unpaid so far heading into 2024, it is wise to get ahead of it.

Houston Texans: Is this a Top-5 Offense in the NFL?

Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins got going for his third season and surpassed 1,200 receiving yards while having 8 touchdowns.

Due to a few injuries in 2021 and 2022, the former Michigan receiver at 6’4″ and 215 pounds didn’t get going till this past year, when he had his breakout season. With Rookie of the Year passer Stroud, Collins was a top-10 receiver statistically in 2023 and formed an electric young duo that was explosive in his first season.

Now with the addition of an All-Pro and Pro Bowl receiver in Stefon Diggs to the duo of Collins and Tank Dell, Stroud has the weapons to have an even more productive 2024 season. The veteran 30-year-old Diggs is a short-term rental, while Dell was a productive rookie before his injury.
