“That’s My Boo”: 'Chicago P.D.’ Star Teases Deepening Connection Between Cook and Torres

With Chicago P.D.'s long-running will-they-won't-they dynamic in Burzek finally leading to the altar, there's room for another fun slow-burn relationship to emerge, and the show might have been quietly propping up a successor. While the high-stakes cases and action remain the heart of the series, it’s the romantic threads within the Intelligence Unit that continue to deepen its appeal. Fans have already picked up on a growing chemistry between the newest Intelligence Unit member, Kiana Cook (Toya Turner), and Dante Torress (Benjamin Levy Aguilar), and while the show has stalled on watering the seeds planted, Turner has teased that the possibility remains that something could bud and eventually bloom between the two officers.

Cooks is gradually coming into her own within the unit and proving to be a valuable asset to the team. Fans have expressed a longing for a deeper exploration of the character, and what better way to understand someone than through their relationships? Teasing developments to come, Turner revealed in her recent interview with ScreenRant that Cook’s connections within the unit will grow more layered in the final episodes. "I got closer with Voight, and I think you'll see the relationship I have with Torres become warmer after this episode," she shared. "I feel like we’re becoming closer than we were."

A Friends-to-Lovers Trope Is A Possibility For Cook and Torres

Cook initially connected with Adam Ruzek (Patrick Flueger) when they briefly partnered up after her arrival. While their bond was strictly platonic, her next significant connection with Torres had unmistakable romantic undertones. When quizzed if the show will explore that spark further, Turner played it coy but couldn’t resist teasing that a romance between the two could be on the horizon:

"Y'all are tripping! [Laughs] That is so funny. Just closer friendly right now. Closer friendly. That's it. I don't know where Gwen is going with our dynamic. I don't want to speak for her, but I feel like she didn't bring Kiana Cook on to be someone's love interest. But that doesn't mean it won't happen later on, whether that's someone new coming on or someone who's already on the show. Whatever chemistry you're all seeing, I'm telling you, it's because we're just locked in. That's all. That's my boo."

Furthermore, Turner teased that the upcoming Burzek wedding is "a pretty epic happy moment" that fans "are going to love." The actress also revealed that the finale will see something develop between her and Torres. "I will say there is something in the season finale," she told NBC Insider of Cook and Torres' dynamic. "You know what I mean? Just a little something. Just a little bit." And who could blame them? Weddings have a way of getting us all in our feelings.
