When you need some offense generated, you usually go to your guys on the wing for help. They fly like swift birds down the ice, catching their opponents off guard for a goal. That's no different for the Vegas Golden Knights, who've made a living off the art.
Fans have grown enamored with seeing Reilly Smith and William Karlsson team up on the penalty kill for a surprising goal or two. They've also seen players like Mark Stone express themselves in big ways after scoring a game-altering goal. Moments like this make being a Golden Knights fan one-of-a-kind.
That's why we must honor the three most important wingers in Golden Knights history. Three players come to mind in this regard. They've set the bar high for their fellow players, helping them to stand out among their peers.
So why not honor these three players and give them their flowers (not Marc-Andre Fleury)? After all, Vegas wouldn't have a Stanley Cup without the trio. Debate amongst yourselves whether this list is legit or not. Ladies and gentlemen, here are the three best wingers in Vegas Golden Knights history.
3.) Mark Stone
Traditionally, Mark Stone has been a swing player regarding the forward position. He's played center in some capacities and has led a line for the Golden Knights. However, his calling comes as a right winger.
In seven seasons with Vegas, he's earned his stripes. The Captain has scored 108 goals and 215 assists, making him one of the most important pieces in the forward lineup.
Last season alone, Stone had a career-high 20 assists on the power play, leading the group to the second-best showing in the NHL (28.3%). While plenty of that work has been attributed to the likes of Tomas Hertl and Pavel Dorofeyev, you can't deny what having a big body like Stone's has done for the group.
2.) Reilly Smith
In a previous article, I talked about the four best Misfits in Golden Knights history. I mentioned their accomplishments with the franchise and their significance from a perspective of making the franchise relevant in the NHL.
Reilly Smith was a popular name brought up amongst the fans and rightfully so. He scored 127 goals and 170 assists in seven seasons with the Golden Knights, making him one of the most established Misfits in franchise history.
Therefore, let's give him some love here. Smith deserves to be recognized for his talents and contributions to Vegas. After all, you don't have an underrated penalty kill unit without him and William Karlsson.
1.) Jonathan Marchessault
As mentioned, Jonathan Marchessault has numerous franchise records to his name. He's the team's leading goal-scorer (192) and also has the most career points (417) in Golden Knights history.
Plus, he has a Conn Smythe trophy to his name, winning it in 2023. Here, he scored 13 goals and 12 assists during the Stanley Cup run, fulfilling promises to a city healing from a horrible tragedy six years ago.
Therefore, he shall earn the mantle of being the team's best winger ever. However, there's a new guy on the horizon and he hails from Metro Toronto. Will he steal the mantra of being the best winger in Golden Knights history eight years from now? Only time will tell...
