The Aftermath Of Bobby's Death In 9-1-1 Will Be Hardest On One 118 Firefighter - And It's Not Buck

In the season 8 finale of 9-1-1the 118 spoke and chose their brand-new captain – Chimney (Kenneth Choi). It was Chimney that brought the team back together after being on the brink of tearing. He felt that it was his responsibility to keep everyone together. Although the death of Bobby has been hitting Buck especially hard, Chimney is the one that has had to live with the guilt that Bobby sacrificed himself in order for Chimney to live. This guilt, along with the legacy Bobby leaves behind, will prove challenging for Chimney as he takes on the role as captain.

The challenges Chimney faces in season 9 will either make or break him. We are going to see him make mistakes like any brand-new captain would. Through the help of his wife Maddie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and the support of his firefighter family, Chimney will be able to overcome anything that is thrown at him. However, it is going to be up to him and only him if he succeeds as captain. Everyone around him believes in him, but he needs to believe in himself first.

Chimney Will Struggle To Replace Bobby As Captain Of The 118

Bobby Left A Large Hole To Fill

Although the 118 chose Chimney to be their captain, it does not mean that Chimney will be flawless. By taking this position, Chimney will have to take on his entire team's trauma from losing Bobby. He is going to have to put aside his own grief in order to help those around him. He is not only taking over the position of captain, but he is also taking on the mantle of being the father of the group.

Chimney is the one they are going to look to for answers. It is going to be up to him to be able to provide those without overthinking. This change gives Chimney the opportunity to grow not only himself, but his team. Although Chimney and Athena begin to mend their relationship, the weight of the guilt Chimney feels after Bobby's death is still there. He is going to need to push through this guilt to provide proper leadership to his team.

9-1-1 will return this fall on ABC. All episodes are currently streaming on Hulu.

With the loss of a close friend and a new baby, Chimney has a lot on his plate next season. If he is able to sort it all in his head, he has a chance to be a great captain to his family at the 118. Bobby's presence is going to be felt all through the firehall even though he isn't there. It is up to Chimney to either embrace it or allow it to haunt him. In the end, he is building his own legacy and that is something he is going to have to remember.

Chimney Has To Take What He Learned From Bobby To Guide The Team Through A Turbulent TIme

Chimney Will Need To Separate Himself From Bobby's Legacy And Create His Own

Chimney has spent the last several seasons watching Bobby as his leader. Now that he must step into that role, he must remember everything that Bobby was able to teach him in the time they had together. Being captain is more than being the one to make decisions in the moment. Bobby kept the team together in some of their toughest moments and this is the main lesson that Chimney is going to have to carry with him. It is up to Chimney to make sure everyone is able to pull through together just like Bobby would have wanted.

In the 9-1-1 season 8 finale, we saw a team that was struggling to see the light after a huge building disaster. Even though they did not lose a single life, they were still haunted by the fact that Bobby wasn't there. Eddie was gearing up to go back to Texas and Buck had asked for a transfer. After fighting his own battles, Chimney couldn't bear to lose anyone else.

This is where Chimney steps up and gives the team a glance at the one that is destined to take over Bobby's position.

Everyone at the 118 already have faith in him, but it is going to take time before Chimney has faith in himself as 9-1-1 continues.
