It is no secret that the Steelers wanted to sign Aaron Rodgers since his release from the Jets, but after months of questions, there has been no move so far. Cousins is the next stop for the Steelers if they want to have a solid starting quarterback outside of Mason Rudolph.
Cousins signed the massive $180 million deal with the Falcons before the 2024 season and did not play up to his contract, ultimately getting benched for the rookie Michael Penix Jr. Cousins is still owed $45 million in guaranteed money that the Falcons are hoping another team would pay at least $20 million of that.
The Steelers currently have Rudolph, Skylar Thompson and Will Howard as their quarterbacks and could add Cousins as a starter or a veteran to compete for that gig. Cousins has made it clear that he believes he is still a starter in this league and does not want to be a backup.
The Falcons are not the team that will start Cousins in 2025, so a trade or a release and singing to another team would be the only options for Cousins to be happy. Thats where the Steelers come in and could make a deal in the next few weeks, if Rodgers does not sign with them.
Cousins is coming off a season where he led the league in interceptions in only 14 games but also had an impressive 509 yar performance and overtime win against the Buccaneers in week 5. That was his best game as a Falcon, and every game after that was a roller coaster.
This will continue to develop as the days pass, and sooner or later a deal could be made that would send Cousins to Pittsburgh.
