The Last of Us DualSense Controller Couldn't Be Coming At A Worse Time

Unfortunately, the special new controller’s announcement also comes at the same time as series creator Neil Druckmann practically confirmed that there will be no The Last of Us 3. This choice by Naughty Dog is likely because the studio is moving on to different projects like the upcoming Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, which is an exciting project, but still disappointing for long-time fans of TLOU.

The PlayStation Controller Will Be $84.99

The newly announced black and white DualSense controller features trophy icons and items from the series, as well as more meaningful symbols from both games. Neil Druckmann and Megan Mehran from Naughty Dog shared in a PlayStation blog post, “players will recognize the Fireflies’ iconic spray-painted logo that originated in Part 1, while the moth and wolf represent the intertwining lives and duality between Ellie and Abby in Part 2.”

Following TLOU Part 3 News, It's Poor Timing

A Bittersweet Special Edition Release

The Last of Us (2023) TV Show Pster

The Last of Us has been an important series for Sony and Naughty Dog for over a decade, spawning several remakes and remasters which some fans are getting sick of. Unfortunately, the reign of TLOU games might be coming to an end after series creator Neil Druckmann hinted that there won’t be a third game. Druckmann stated, “this could be it” when speaking about the series at large.

With the shadow of that vague statement over the series, releasing a celebratory controller seems like poor timing. Perhaps the new DualSense controller is a swan song for The Last of Us in terms of video games, which makes its release more consolatory than celebratory. The controller is most likely coming out now to mark the upcoming second season of the HBO show, which does make sense. For fans of the games, a new controller alongside almost confirmation that there will be no more sequels is bittersweet at best.
