The first season arrived all the way back in January 2023 with amazing performances from series leads Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, cementing the series as one of the best video game adaptations of all time. The bar is high for creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann as they deliver new episodes of the sci-fi favorite.

The Last of Us Season 2 Plot
According to Max, the second season picks up five years after the first ended. “Joel and Ellie’s collective past catches up to them, drawing them into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”
Series creators Mazin and Druckman have said the new episodes come from the Part II video game (they also said seven episodes wouldn’t be enough to tell all of that story, hinting at future seasons).
The Last of Us Part II video game also picks up five years after the first installment as “Ellie embarks on another journey through a post-apocalyptic America on a mission of vengeance against a mysterious militia,” according to IMDB.
“The story material we got from Part II of the game is way more than the story material that was in the first game,” Mazin told Deadline.
