Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Last of Us season 2, episode 2, and The Last of Us Part II.
But unlike in the game, in the TV show, we actually got to see what happened the night before. At a New Year’s Eve party, Dina kissed Ellie, Seth used a homophobic slur against them, and Joel attacked him for it, prompting Ellie to curse him out in front of everybody. In the game, this isn’t shown until much later in the story as a flashback sequence. The premiere episode seemed to skip one of the most important moments from that night, but episode 2 seems to hint that we’ll get it later as a flashback.
The Last Of Us Season 2 Episode 2 Hints Joel & Ellie Had Their Porch Conversation After All
The Last Of Us TV Show Isn't Skipping The Game's Most Beautiful Scene
The most beautiful scene in the game is a flashback that appears at the very end. It reveals that, after Ellie yelled at Joel at the party, she spoke to him on his porch. She tells him that the reason she’s so upset with him is because he took away her chance for her life to matter. But Joel tells her he would do it all over again, and she realizes just how much she means to him. She tells him she isn’t sure if she can forgive him, but she would like to try.
When Could The Last Of Us Reveal This Flashback?
The Game Saves It Until The Very End
In the game, the porch scene doesn’t appear until the very end, but the TV show has shuffled around the timeline a few times, so when will it get around to showing this flashback? The Last of Us is planned to run for four seasons, but it’s unlikely that the TV show will hold onto this scene until season 4. At the same time, the game put this scene at the end for a reason: it recontextualizes the whole story. Whenever The Last of Us delivers this scene, it’ll be heartbreaking to see Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey play it.
