The release month for The Last of Us season 2 is revealed in a new teaser trailer. Season 1 was released in 2023 and was met with critical acclaim, including for Pedro Pascal's performance as Joel and Bella Ramsey's performance as Ellie. The Last of Us season 2's story will continue to follow Joel and Ellie while also focusing a great deal on a new character, Abby (Kaitlyn Dever). Season 2 was already confirmed to release in 2025, but a specific date or month had not been announced yet.

Max has now released a new teaser trailer revealing that The Last of Us season 2 will debut in April. In addition to the release month, there is footage of Joel (Pedro Pascal), Ellie (Bella Ramsey), Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), Jeffrey Wright's new character, Isaac, and the return of Joel's brother, Tommy (Gabriel Luna). The infected are featured as well, including a shot of them throwing themselves against a community's protective walls.

What This Means For The Last Of Us

The Wait For Season 2 Is Almost Over

It was possible that the series would end up debuting in the second half of 2025, but it is now only three months away from resuming. While those who have played the video games know what happens to Joel and Ellie after The Last of Us season 1's ending, many viewers have been waiting for two years to find out what happens next.

However, as seen with season 1, especially with the emotional Bill (Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett) storyline, there will be surprises in store for all audiences, making the confirmed release month all the more tantalizing. The fast-approaching season 2 release is also good news for Max, with The Last of Us season 2 arguably being their biggest show since House of the Dragon season 2's finale last August. The show's long-awaited return will likely lead to a significant increase in subscriptions in April.

As one of the most anticipated shows of 2025, it is thrilling to know that new The Last of Us episodes will begin releasing in the first half of the year and only in a few months from now. Season 1 remains one of the greatest video game adaptations of all time, while also standing on its own as a phenomenal television series. Even though this is a tough act to follow, the games show that the story's continuation is just as compelling as what came before. The Last of Us season 2 could be even better than season 1.
